That 'what-if' article is very interesting in light of current speculation. Interesting that Wanda already have a 20% stake in Atletico Madrid.

Not sure how that would work for Wanda. Doesn't Mike Ashley have to sell his (10%) share in Glasgow Rangers as the FA won't allow him to have (part) ownership in two clubs?

If it is Wanda Group I would present Match of the Day in my underpants.

Ive got a Wanda Jackson LP somewhere in the attic if that helps.

That's the most foolish thing I've seen on here in ages. What's it doing in your attic Ron? Get it down and play it!

There are some scary things in my attic...Lord Lucan for one and Lady Ron had a hell of a struggle getting Shergar up there as well!

Don't watford's owners also own (I think) udinese?

That does ring a bell but then don't the Man City lot own a Major League team as well, hence the Lampard shenanigans? Maybe the teams are 'owned' through different parts of the portfolio...?

You'd need an attic the size of a small country for that.

Gino Pozzo owns Watford, Giampaolo Pozzo (his dad) owns Granada and Udinese.

I don't want to add to the conjecture, but could this explain the sudden change from consortium to individual owner. If the group owns Atletico and isn't permitted by the Football League is it possible that a single figurehead is used for this takeover to avoid this rule.

For the record, I don't think it'll be this guy.

You'd be rumbled pretty quickly too. Once the neighbours saw the twice-daily pie delivery.

Just googled "prominent Chinese business men and look at what popped up. http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2014-04/10/content_32050568_2.htm
Somebody dropped his name in about 20 pages back.
If it is Wang Jianlin he's only worth twenty billion quid. Oh and last year he bought a house next door to Kensington Palace so maybe the future King has had a word with him.

Company called the Wanda Group (avoiding saying anything about fishy in case I get punished) and lists its industry as real estate and culture. Sounds promising

Guo Ziwen is the name being bandied around in other corners of the interweb.

Hm. Not exactly a big hitter when it comes to the rich and the famous of China.

Where have you found that?

The only info I can find is that in 2004 he was worth $74 Million, and by 2007 he was no quoted as a net family wealth of $1.2 billion!

You don't grow your wealth a that quickly cutting hair or operating as money launderer for whichever nefarious group it was Carsen was helping out.

Same info. Though I latched onto the 74 million bit, obviously, since I'm Villa and not used to anything uplifting. The 1.2 billion sounds promising but I don't know what "& family" actually means. I doubt he has grown his own pot to 1.2b in just a couple of years though (even allowing for the endemic corruption and shenanigans in the mainland)

Didn't Murphy in his piece for 5Live say that he'd been informed that our PL squad hold contracts between them worth £74 million?
If that's right then any new owner is going to have to take a big hit in trying to off load any of them.

Wasn't it totalling 74 years?

We need Pat McMahon to comment on this. What has occurred to me is the fact that we need a new manager will be down to Wyness. He obviously knows Moyes
well and it is possible that Moyes will be interested if he has someone he knows and the finance required.

Having said that I would still prefer Pearson.

I think it was cumulative duration of 74-years across the whole squad, not a value.  I'm not entirely sure of the relevance as in some instances that is good and others bad.

That sounds extremely low.

Call it 20 players (given that some of the squad are out of contract), average of three years left, gives an average wage of about £20,000 per week.

If our average wage is anything close to that then it was one of the lowest in the league.

And the accounts don't suggest that we do.
