There's way too much smoke now for there to not be a fire. I'm as pessimistic as they come with the Villa now but this is happening unless Lerner pulls off a remarkable fuck up.

Murphy stated the words 'prominent Chinese businessman' in a later report.

Carson will soon be a free man and at a loose end wont he?

Just googled "prominent Chinese business men and look at what popped up. http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2014-04/10/content_32050568_2.htm
Somebody dropped his name in about 20 pages back.
If it is Wang Jianlin he's only worth twenty billion quid. Oh and last year he bought a house next door to Kensington Palace so maybe the future King has had a word with him.

Company called the Wanda Group (avoiding saying anything about fishy in case I get punished) and lists its industry as real estate and culture. Sounds promising

Guo Ziwen is the name being bandied around in other corners of the interweb.

An article in “Finance Asia“ about Wang Jianlin was posted a couple of times on here                                       ( http://www.financeasia.com/News/407321,what-if8230wanda-bought-aston-villa.aspx ) . As Laughing Policeman mentions, The Brum Mail  followed up with this:

"Fans on forums have suggested that the man behind the consortium is Wang Jianlin, not a name that is familiar with everyone.

Is the interest anything more than wild fanciful forum talk? It remains to be seen.

Who is he? Good question, one thing is for sure, he could afford Aston Villa.

In 2014 he was named by Forbes as the 26th richest man in the world with a net worth of $25 billion.

This year he was named as the richest man in Asia with a net worth of $28.7 billion
4 months ago he bought a house for £80m in Kensington, London
He has previously donated $197 million to charitable causes. He helped the restoration of an ancient temple in Nanjing.
He also paid $200,00 for the restoration of the Electric Fountain in Beverley Hills.

Could his love of restoring once great relics be his sole purpose for wanting to buy Villa?
He is a former regimental commander of the People's Liberation Army with 17-years service. Handling Gabby Agbonlahor and Joleon Lescott would be a breeze.
He was linked with buying a substantial stake in Atletico Madrid last year.
P.S.. ( according to “Forbes“" In January 2015 Dalian Wanda bought 20% of Spanish soccer team Atletico Madrid and in August 2015 it purchased the organizer of Ironman Triathlons for $650 million"
.

As Mr Jianlin is  " former regimental commander of the People's Liberation Army“ , Nigel Pearson should be a perfect fit as Manager  in a Wanda regime       ( AVPLA ? ) .................Godzvilla!

I'm certain we are close to something, but, as we all know, it could go either way if Randy has anything to do with it.

The new owner could be mega rich, in which case why would we dilly-dally over whether he has the funds to enable appropriate investment? On the other hand he could be a dodgy hairdresser. I'm guessing he'll be somewhere between the two.

What I'm really hoping is that he's not an heir with his head floating in the breeze like a dandelion, but a shrewd businessman with energy, passion and a genuine interest in his investment. That will be a huge leap forward from where we are now.

I hope it's not something we'll have to frame in a good way to make ourselves feel better. There has been a lot of hinting on journalists' part that the takeover has substantial funding, but nobody who has been more than tangentially linked seems to have 'game-changing' amounts of cash as speculated. It wouldn't take a lot to change the game from where we currently are, after all.

I'm not turning my nose up at any old billionaire, but I don't think it'll be a huge coup and we may be in for a dose of realism.

Hm. Not exactly a big hitter when it comes to the rich and the famous of China.

I'm in the camp that if it's Di Matteo and Commoli then it won't be some Chinese guy without a pot to piss in. Cautiously optimistic here.

I think, to be fair to lerner, that he will be doing a lot of homework on the potential owner and making sure that he isn't a Carson Yeung Mark 2. I hope so, anyway.

Why would you think that? Has Lerner done a lot of homework on anything whilst owning the Villa?

Either way, I'm just happy to be shot of Lerner, we are shelling money left right and centre, have no star players left, lose every week and have no solid structure at the club in any department. I'll take my chances with the Chinese guy.

Hope I'm wrong, but I believe there is no take over, in which case, were going to be fucked in the championship.
Do you mean they are not trying to sell, and are not talking to anyone, which I think is a completely ludicrous position to hold, or that the deal will fall through at an advance stage, which could well happen?

£80m for a house in Kensington and £60m for a Villa in Brum?
I must have missed that episode of 'A Place in The Sun".

Randys managed to sell us for less than he bought us for 10 years ago, despite an incredible boom in TV money, that's some going.

A "prominent Chinese businessman" Murphy described our soon to be new owner. Hopefully he's seriously rich and has a bit of drive and ambition!

Instead of speculating and guessing - why doesn't anyone ask Admin and remove all doubts?

Perhaps the low price has something to do with an agreement the new owners will spend a considerable amount of money on the team?

He doesn't need to be an Ambramovich or Mansour, please just give us someone with some Savvy and brains.

Southampton, West Ham, Swansea, West Barcelona, Stoke. All clubs comfortable, doing well, making money, as far as I know they haven't been massively bankrolled, they just keep making good football decisions. With the size of us, get people in place who know what they are doing and we will be up there again. It's not like they have to turn Gillingham into Premier League challengers, we have the ground, we have the support, we need clever people.
