Will the new owners buy up all of Lerner's shares and give fans the opportunity to buy a certain allocation? I'd love to be a shareholder again. Lerner has taken that option away for 10 years.

No. The genie came out of the bottle when Randy bought us.

Seconded. No more Chinese punathons please.

It'd be nice if punathons were banned completely. Tedious shit.

I disagree. Pauliewalnuts.

That's up there with Cha Cha Cha Champion for me!

Listening to a guy on the radio, who said that he knows a couple of men who have brought football clubs recently (I assume in the lower divisions), he said that for about 3 months they were living the dream of being a football club owner

then they looked at there bank accounts and realised that they would soon be broke!

Whoever comes in needs to have very deep pockets, because we have a lot to sort out.

Just a couple of punathons to go then! We could do it by Saturday if it's allowed.

Congratulations on that superb riposte Paulie
.
As bets go Villa are an attractive one.  If sentiment is stripped out of the deal and the ownership is treated as the straightforward business operation Lerner never got his head around a substantial profit is there for the taking.  The reasonable expectation of the club returning to the Premiership within say, four years then sold for £50 million more than was paid for it is not an unattractive punt.

I would be far happier with clear ambition driven by a profit motive than the muddled, silly, stop/go, feast and famine of Lerner's years.  If it gets an end to humiliation and ridicule and puts an instant stop to the tail wagging the dog at Villa Park however it is done is welcome.

Whoever buys the club, and whatever their motives, they might be incompetent, they might be ruthlessly profit driven, but they are unlikely to be as stupid as Randy Lerner. Whatever happens, I doubt we'll be suffering in quite the same idiotic, yet ultimately avoidable way.

The loud and clear lesson from Lerner's disastrously insane 'stewardship' must be: appoint competent board members STRAIGHT AWAY. It could hardly be any simpler. It will work for the owners and the fans. Do that and the rest will start to take care of itself.

I'm not sure that is so true nowadays, once in the PL, most teams make a profit.

If you assume that the club's adjusted value, from £200m to £100m, reflects the likely cost to get the club back in the top league, after that it is not unreasonable to anticipate a return each season and also if sold.

Absolutely Mr U.  The money washing around the Premiership can ameliorate serious errors of judgement.  You drop a bollock like N'Zogbia or Ireland or Gabby in the Championship and you pay for that mistake for years.

Bradford and Carbone come to mind.
