As has been said, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of another outfit, who have the token Chinese state ownership. They're not worth a great deal all told, with circa £24 million in capital for the first company and a little bit more for the principle entity, so if the article is to be believed, there must be significant investment coming from somewhere, possibly the government.

Could be - there was an article on Beeb news the other day about China investing heavily in football in general and football schools in particular with a view to becoming a world football 'superpower' in the next 20/30 years. Tapping into a club with great tradition and history could fit - it also fits with Chinese investment to fund major regeneration projects in Birmingham. Could be interesting

I can see that. What I don't understand is why the state would choose to do it via a mediocre pharmaceutical company?

Didn't the Soviets invest in sport via "companies" as well? Tractor, Dynamo, etc?

Locamotiv, Torpedo.....

Ah yes, Torpedo St Andrews. Not actually a football club, but a mission.

Are there any decent Chinese players? I assume some will suddenly be using Villa as a way of exposing themselves to the wider European market. And a way for the owners to create awareness for the club back in China.

No. The Chinese aren't that good at team sports.

Isn't it a matter of time though, they have quota systems in place in their home league, are investing in some very decent players to play in it too. Eventually some decent Chinese players will emerge, if they are not already doing so. They have some very decent athletes, swimmers etc, so why not footballers.

They've also introduced football as part of their education system for 7-12 yr olds.

And Her Majesty reckons they're rude as well.

Lol.

I disagree too. I never feel compelled to join in until someone starts moaning about them.

I wish I'd have thought of that paulie.

It's funny, i don't like the punathons either but people moaning about the punathons pisses me off even more. I think when I first started on the forum I may have even moaned myself but I'm a little less of prick now. I'm running on 80%.
