Are there any decent Chinese players? I assume some will suddenly be using Villa as a way of exposing themselves to the wider European market. And a way for the owners to create awareness for the club back in China.

Not sure of any decent chinky players currently, but the government there has implemented that school children have a football lesson daily... Jammy bastards!

Also if we changed some of our current 'heroes' to Chinese names we have a superstar in Gabby.
Wai Tu Fat
No need for that.

No need for what? Calling Gabby a fat prick?

And ozzjim what is this casual racism you are on about

"Chinky".

Seriously chinky? Wow. So can we call Randy a yank (yes that is a 'y' nor a 'w') ? Or is that casual racism, which is a term in itself what makes no sense whatsoever. Something is either racist or it isn't, so to speak it is black & white, how can you have an in-between is beyond me.

I respect the rules so won't us that phrase but seriously?

Traditionally, calling someone a 'Yank' was, at worst, mildly banterous (#bantah). Does it really need spelling out what calling someone a 'chinky' was at worst?

Its an offensive racist slur that should not need further debate.

Sorry, what with the time zones and work I've not read the last 10 pages.

Can someone tell me what's happening?

Lot's of poor Chinese puns, casual outdated racism and a rumour in the Mirror that we are about to be bought by the Chinese government. Not much really!

If you are having to ask that question in what is a public setting then what kind of stuff do you say to your friends in private? You'll find most people feel "chinky" isn't an appropriate term to use. Please don't use it again.

As has been said, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of another outfit, who have the token Chinese state ownership. They're not worth a great deal all told, with circa £24 million in capital for the first company and a little bit more for the principle entity, so if the article is to be believed, there must be significant investment coming from somewhere, possibly the government.

Could be - there was an article on Beeb news the other day about China investing heavily in football in general and football schools in particular with a view to becoming a world football 'superpower' in the next 20/30 years. Tapping into a club with great tradition and history could fit - it also fits with Chinese investment to fund major regeneration projects in Birmingham. Could be interesting

I can see that. What I don't understand is why the state would choose to do it via a mediocre pharmaceutical company?

Didn't the Soviets invest in sport via "companies" as well? Tractor, Dynamo, etc?
