If the sale has broken down I kind of don't mind. Randy won't sell us unless he really thinks the new owners will do the right thing by Villa. I also think he wanted to sell for completely the right reasons in that he wanted to sell us to someone who had the same feelings and care for the club he does.
His personal situation and the economic climate added to O'Neill's tenure pushed us close to the brink and he made a business decision to pull up the drawbridge. I remember reading last year that we can start relaxing the fiscal constraints and if that is true, and Randy has become more energised and is the Randy of the first season or two than I'd be delighted if he stayed.
There have been some horrendous mistakes but we're still here. If there is any semblance if hope that Randy will get his Villa mojo back, or has got it back, then I'd welcome his continued stay. Behind the scenes we're doing what should have been done when Randy first come in and I think Tom Fox can be thanked for that, but with Randy's backing. I think if we had a amenable O'Neill and a Tom Fox in 2008 onwards we'd be a different Villa now.
Anyway, this transfer window will tell us a lot about who and what we are. Hopefully Sherwood is going to prove that he is the right person for the job because I'm sick and tired of there being so many elements seemingly right that become unstuck very quickly and we slip back a little bit further.
