what a load of polemical tosh - despite its undoubted faults I'd rather be living here than in Greece. And some of my best friends are Chinese.

When Greece leave/thrown out of the EU they will devalue and we will all be over there on cheap holidays and going out for a meal for 4 for a fiver including wine

Happy days just round the corner

Yep and because they'll be skint they'll be importing the cheapest food and supplies possible to cook and serve you that you and your three friends will be shitting yourself for weeks after. Not so happy days beyond the initial happy days.

My misses is the worst cook in the world and I've survived this far, so should be ok

Well if it does go all peared shaped in Greece I hope they use the opportunity to start making better wine. Some is OK but on the whole they're not a patch on the Italians,Spanish or French. I could quite happily eat a McDonalds over there as long as it is accompanied by a decent bottle of plonk.

British banks own the best part of 10 Billion Euros of Greek Debt. The amount of derivatives loaded on top of this is exponentially higher. Those who think it is funny may soon find it less so.

I think an awful lot of people are failing to see the wider implications of what this would mean, thinking it's just something happening in Greece and the Eurozone, and doesn't affect us.

As ever there bigger picture is not appreciated. The world is to intertwined for a country to default and it not adversely affect others is simply not going to happen.

And knowing our luck their tumbling out of the Eurozone will be approximately 24 hours prior to what would've been the completion of a takeover.

Can someone please answer my questions about FFP. I read elsewhere that FFP will change and a takeover could be delayed because they are waiting to see the new rules. a) does this really concern Villa if we are not in Europe? b) could the new owner not simply sponsor/rename one of the stands to bring revenue to the club and therefore get round the rules?

Everything you could want to know here. That's the rules as they are, rather than the proposed changes.

Basically as long as your loss is less than £105m over three seasons and your total wage bill is below £52m then you're hunky-dory.

When you get into European competition it gets a bit stricter, the loss can be no more than 45m euros over three seasons.

But if UEFA FFP is relaxed, the Prem will have to follow, or the Prem teams may not be able to complete in Europe.

The Premier League rules are already far more lenient than the UEFA ones. So if the UEFA ones are relaxed, the likelihood is that the Premier League ones can more or less stay as they are.

the Chinese billionaires have been out in force opportunity hunting in Birmingham this past week. There's your answer! Land, houses, factories, malls and Aston Villa!

Eh?  Is that true and how do you know?
It was on central news, they are over buying up large tracts of land eg. Birmingham Eastside etc.
If I'm honest I'm a bit uncomfortable with it all .

Regardless of your personal preferences/casual xenophobia, you'd better get used to the last 3/4 of the 21st century being dominated by China, having spent the last 30 years out competing the traditional economic powerhouses (whilst buying a huge proportion of US government debt) and now starting to dominate in technology development instead of copying design.

It's also a nature consequences of the way the UK has been run over the last 40 odd years. Oscillating between rank incompetence and ideological dogma regardless of consequences and sometimes hitting the bittersweet spot of both. Result? Undervalued assets and a culture that knows the price of most things and the value of very little lacking the funding to pay for their upkeep.

Anyone uncomfortable with that better sign up for the one way mission to Mars, because that's the only way you're getting away from this inconvenient truth.

Let's relax and watch a filam.

But the possible sanctions are worse aren't they? UEFA impose fines and bans from their cups. I think the Premier League can do fines and points reductions.

Thanks Dave. So, is it possible to get around it all by simply renaming the ground and therefore bringing in revenue for this? I have a feeling that this might happen.

Yup, you're quite right.

I guess the point would be that it would be a bit of a catch-22 situation. If you're spending enough to risk going over the Premier League limits then you would hope that you had spent enough to need to worry about potential European competitions. At which point you then need to cut back anyway in order to not fall foul or the much lower UEFA thresholds.

Unless you're QPR I suppose who seem quite adept at getting the worst of all possible worlds.
