Mr U you are spot on with the nailed sale to Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. You will recall a late adventure just before they discover that 42 is the answer to the
the meaning of life and everything, they establish a universal currency which is leaves off trees. That is how they will pay for the club and fund all future investment.

exactly, Brian. But don't forget the leaves have to be of a particular type, shape and texture.

We're actually being bought by a new consortium led by Arthur Dent,  backed by Trillian and Ford Prefect. All new names, all new bid. The price is truly astronomical; intergalactically huge, in fact, and one which dwarfs all previous offers. So that geezer from the Mail was lying through his teeth.

That would be typical Villa.

Crack the meaning of life, probably perfect renewable energy and end world poverty too, but still sign expensive flops and stil finish 12th, playing turgid football.

The thing is though, as bad as the story is and as obvious as what he's saying is there's still plenty of people who are certain that because we aren't already sold we're going to be up for sale for years.  The reality is we were never likely to hear anything meaningful until about now, which is pretty much what he's saying.

I don't think anyone is saying they're 'certain' we'll be up for sale for years.

Some people have pointed out the folly of assuming anything re timings of a sale, though, which is a different thing entirely.

The story in the Mail is harmless enough, it's just this bloke they see as their "go to guy" for takeover stories who just states the blindingly obvious every time. "It'll be someone who has been rumoured to be interested. Or someone else", "They'll have to do due diligence" - that sort of thing.

We were referred to as Everton mkII pretty recently.  A few days earlier we had someone on here telling us that the club wasn't really for sale, those are the comments/posters I'm referring to.  Aside from that some of the obvious stuff you mention might not be obvious to everyone, the due diligence stuff at least.  It's an easy mistake to think that this forum is representative of the villa supporter community whereas the reality is that I think the average intelligence on here is a lot higher than a standard football forum.

See, I just don't see that one.  We are by far the biggest club in the Midlands, whereas they are very much second fiddle to a team in their own (rather small) city.  We need very little doing to our stadium and any future upgrade could be achieved by simply re-developing the North Stand, whereas they would need a whole new stadium.

We were referred to Everton, but the point was that we are not like them.  The poster was highlighting that whilst Everton are for sale the club will still try and 'hang on to the coat tails' of Liverpool and therefore there will be a certain amount ambition and consequently spending.  Whereas Villa, already the biggest club in the area, could easily become more complacent because there is not that external factor (a successful neighbouring club) which will act as motivation.

Ramble alert.   Pondering Mr Underhill's ITK exclusive that our buyers are Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect and my conclusion that the club would be paid for with leaves, I asked myself, what sort of leaves?  Considering the last four years of enigma wrapped in mystery I concluded that Monkey Puzzle (Arucaria arucana) would be appropriate.  But then it don't have no proper leaves, only sharp spiky things. That would never do. Too many pricks handling the money.

To save the constant speculation and continual bollox in the press shouldn't the club go the same route as when the Vatican chooses a new pope?
Just erect a chimney on the Holte End roof and when the takeover is done send up a gigantic plume of claret and blue smoke that could be seen all over the city.
Then we could all take to the streets in an explosion of thankfulness and joy.

Well thank god for that..http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/aston-villa-takeover-could-month-7508514
This doesn't seem to have much credibility - "I would have thought that something could happen in the next month if there are serious people out there"; a comment so loaded with conditionals that I'm surprised the editor allowed it in the piece. But then again, it is the BEM.

The last time that bloke was quoted in the Mail, he said "the takeover could come from one of the previously mentioned parties, or it could come from someone we haven't heard from"

Such insight.
