Tim sherwood along with Moyes is 7/2...lambert still far to keep his job though at 6/4...The betting markets can usually pick up things early and that's why I am sceptical about the rumours that lambert has been dismissed.

The betting markets just reflect what the punters think.

I often think about putting, say, £50 on an outsider in such circumstances and seeing what it does to the odds. Then I wake up, sweating.

I can guarantee you that "next Aston Villa manager" is a tiny, tiny market, on which insignificant sums will be wagered.

If you look at oddschecker tomorrow and you see that Mike Bassett has moved in from 20/1 to 3/1, it doesn't mean that the bookies are always on the case and really think that Mike Bassett is going to be our new manager, it means that enough money has gone on Mike Basset to reduce the price, and therefore manage the liability of the bookie.

With it being such a small market, it takes next to no money on a manager to trigger a big movement in the odds. What the bookies "think" doesn't come in to it. Most bookies these days have hardly any actual traders working there, it is all software driven. There is no bloke sat there with a pencil behind his ear, studying the Racing Post anymore, there isn't anyone keeping an eye on the next Villa manager market.

And it is entirely normal to shut markets like this down overnight, too, so when people say "OMG! Bet365 have suspended bets on Mike Bassett!" it isn't because they think he's got the job, it is because they've all gone home for the night and they don't want anything to leak overnight when they're not there and find someone sticking stupid money on him because they either are, or are related to Mike Bassett.

So you're saying Mike Bassett is getting the job?

I've just put £300 on Mike Bassett. Thanks for the tip.

To be fair, Bassett would do a better job than lambert.

You lot may think you're the kings and queens of the bad pun, but whilst sitting at the bar in the pub this afternoon discussing important things like which ale to have next with two friends, a posh bloke we know came up to us and said "I see your club's in a bit of a pickle". The immediate reply from one friend was " Branston or Piccalili?". Cue much merriment from us and those around us and a bewildered look from him as he disappeared to the other end of the bar.
I do love spontaneity.

But that's not even a pun?!

And it was not even what the bloke said.   He actually said "Branson or Philly?" and it was irony pointing out that we were expecting a mega rich buyer not a Hong Kong hairdresser or a Mumbai chicken strangler.

Puns are what makes Heroes and Villa grate.

Harry I think, not Mike Mal.   The rumour mill still is running with the choke out.

well here's a tickle that could be interesting. The Trees has reported that a private jet owned by New York law firm McLaughlin & Stern landed at Birmingham yesterday afternoon. Apparently they have had involvement in the acquisition of sports teams in the past. Just passing it on. Don't shoot messengers etc. No code claret, blue, or magenta.

Fuck. The one day I don't go past the airport and a bloody plane lands.
