Don't shoot the messenger but the ever reliable "Aston Villa 1874" on Facebook just put up the following:

Breaking news - American TV and radio are led to believe aston villa football club has been sold to Mr Larry Elinson UTV

I put this because someone pointed out that maybe something would be leaked in America before we found out over here.

You'd think they would spell his name right!

I've now gone from being cautiously excited at the prospect of Lerners statement to being almost resigned to a "we go again" type announcement, just in Lerner corporate speak.

Why am I talking myself out of the potential of good news. Why am I just assuming the worst, more malaise?

Looking at things rationally, it makes no sense to offer up an announcement that announces nothing. You don't announce hypotheticals. It's just that I'm so confused I worry anything is possible and have no faith in the chuckle brothers that actually run the place.

Hope to be proved wrong.

On the bright side, whatever the state of play is, we're going to find out in the next week or so.

Given the expectation built up since his last statement, he has to come out and say something in that timeframe. This won't be allowed to drag on in uncertainty for any longer.

Didn't think I'd say this, but they did a good job of debunking that one on TBAR. This Dermot person, after five years of not tweeting, suddenly sent a spate of posts saying he'd heard Ellison is buying Villa on various American radio stations. This turned out to be unlikely, given that the radio stations in question were, at time of tweeting, broadcasting programmes on cooking and medicine. So, unless Ellison plans to saute Villa and serve us as a cure for glaucoma, we can file this one under 'Bollocks'.

Don't blame you, I sort of did for a moment.

I love this Bulltwit stuff. What on earth passes through the heads of people who make up rumours for attention. Grown adults often, as well! It's utterly baffling.

I heard it was Larry Grayson taking over. He plans for his son, Simon, to be manager.

Will the last high earner leaving Villa Park please "shut that door" behind them.

It is, but at the same time, it's at least interesting.

The whole takeover thing is making the summer way more interesting than it otherwise would be. Imagine how miserable we're going to be on Tuesday or Wednesday when Randy presses "send" on his email client and Doogan gets the order to tell everyone something utterly incomprehensible about maybe selling and maybe not.

I loved that one, that was great. You know, if we do get new owners, and ones who operate with a normal balance of openness and secrecy, I'm going to miss this desperately trying to work out what the hell Lerner's doing. Joining up very widely spaced dots gives you lots of space for any amount of line bending.

If that makes any fucking sense. Christ it's late.

The inspirational, motivational Sir Graham Taylor is being guarded but knows I think.

It was interesting, albeit in hindsight, that when he was asked about coming back last week he said there'd have to be a change in ownership first.

That wasn't the way I heard it on WM on the way back from the Hull game. He was asked directly that IF there was a change in ownership would he come back and he responded with some guarded provisional conditions for his return.

Can you remember his words? This is very interesting.

Can't remember his exact words but earlier on this thread I posted.... "Very interesting listening to SGT on WM on the way back today. He was asked would he take on a DoF role at the club, and he basically said IF he was offered it and IF he was sure the whole club was pulling in the same direction with the same goal of getting the club into the top six where it belongs, then yes he would consider it"

Sorry don't know how to shift quotes around

Love Graham Taylor, but too old now. He would be great in some part time capacity, but not DOF
