An anti-climax in this case is any statement that suggests that we're continuing along the same path that we have for the last four eyes.

As a glasses wearer I find this hugely offensive

I only wear them to read, so I find it hugely offensive, but only about 1/3 of the time

This all has an air of us being an annoyance to him now, his tone he took during his little statement of a statement was snappy. So sell the club for whatever you can get for it, it wont be what you put in either, because you fucked it up, WE OWE YOU NOTHING.

We owe Lerner a fair amount of gratitude. When he took over, we were certs for relegation and the club was stagnant from top through to bottom. His coming not only rejuvenated the team, but he invested in the training facilities, stadium and surrounding area. His mistakes come not through his desire to want us to succeed, but through his trust of a bitter little man, who shafted him and probably destroyed his trust in football.
I find it incredible that a man that has tried to rejuvenate the club is told that we owe him nothing.

Agree wholeheartedly, Neil.

As for potential new owners, I'd rather stick with Randy Lerner than go with Simpson and Davis. It would be like Groundhog Day watching them make all the same mistakes as Lerner but without the class and care. The other names being banded about are to dream of but I just can't see us being that lucky.

I would take a less naive (wiser) version of Randy Lerner circa 2006-2009 over most other options.

I would hope that if the club is being sold that behind the scenes that has already taken place or at the very least those conversations are at an advanced stage with interested parties.

Me too, but this is Randy Lerner we're talking about. His communication skills are non-existent. That whole statement was just more than a little bit weird - and looked very much like it hadn't gone through Doogan to me, it was so odd - and it's not really difficult to imagine Lerner actually just clouding matters and giving the impression there's some huge announcement when, actually, he just means "stop going on about the ownership of the club while we are trying to stay up".

I've a horrible feeling there's going to be the mother of all anti-climaxes here next week.

You're likely on the money.

In that case I think we should define what would represent climax and anti-climax.

Anything less than a kitten.

A new tattoo, the General returning, free scarves, new deep fat fryers or a domestic pet smaller than are all less than a kitten.

I would settle for a Facebook update so long as it is a really excellent one.

Like a picture of Randy on his holidays, looking sunburned and wearing a vest, holding a giant pink cocktail with an umbrella in it and saying LOL

Two years ago when Lerner realised he needed to act at the end of the season he did so promptly and without fuss. He will do so again.

It's going to take much more than a managerial change to turn the club around though. Ger Regan put it best when describing a managerial change as simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Indeed.

Honestly, without significant financial changes, what is the point in sacking Lambert?

I guess it depends on whether you think someone like Michael Laudrup (or similar) might have got more out of Lambert's £40 million +

Yes, there were well documented wage restrictions.  But the bulk of Laudrup's deals came from Spain, and the economic crisis there meant that Michu, Chico Flores and the other players signed from smaller Spanish clubs wouldn't have been on ridiculous money.

The ideal solution is of course a complete break.  But (worst case scenario) RL stays on: It's not unthinkable that another manager could get more out of the current squad (plus any future funding) than Lambert could.

I wonder if the statement if / when it is Made will be linked to what happened re Carsa / Kulverhouse / Lambert ? Are they still suspended ? Has the investigation been completed ? Why were they suspended ? Did they leak something ? Or was it bullying ? The club is quite frankly one smouldering mess and the lack of leadership from the top is frightening.

We need answers

It's not unthinkable, but it's unlikely we'd find them and hire them.

he specifically referred to addressing the rumours surrounding the ownership of the club. Isn't the Karsa/Culverhouse stuff in legal hands now? They wouldn't be discussing that publicly, why would Randy concern himself with that anyway?

Smouldering mess? Blimey the descriptions get better and better. How about we are an out of control raging inferno, or the after effects of a tsunami, crushed beneath the weight of poor decisions.

We hired Lambert thinking he'd be perfect to do the very job we are going to want someone else to do.

We're like a run-over fox, a sticky red road pizza with a clump of reddish fur on top. In the middle of the road. The road to nowhere. In some godawful bit of countryside.
