What does Lambert mean by ''It's a bit different, but I respect him'' regarding the announcement?

Probably just means that he's used to speaking to the chairman face to face and not in absentia.

If Randy's announcement runs along the lines of him saying there will be no changes at Villa it really will be an example of the most cack-handed way a club could communicate with and manage the expectations of its fanbase.

Like I said, that would be totally pointless.  If you announce that you will be making a statement on a certain day then you have to have something more to say than "we're going to plod on in the same way as before".

Totally agree.

What if he said something like this:

"I wanted to take this opportunity to talk a little about the season we have been through, and where the club currently stands. I have specifically waited until the end of the season to do so, as I did not want to in any way add to the challenges facing Paul and his team in keeping us in the Premier League.

Firstly, let me reiterate, Paul has done a truly excellent job in difficult circumstances. The club has had to regroup financially after a period of heavy losses, and Paul has worked within some pretty tough parameters set by myself and the board.

We firmly believe that the club is now on a more sound financial footing than it has been in recent years. Going forward, the club must stand on its own too feet financially, and these difficult times have made that viable.

I said when i arrived that if I failed to move the club forward, then I would hand over control for someone else to have a go. Should someone come forward with an offer which reflects my valuation of the club, then I would listen to them.

As yet, that has not happened, nor is there any indication that it will do.

We look forward to growing the club next year, and believe that better times are ahead."

That ^^^^ to my mind would be the absolute worst thing.

It'd mean continued austerity when we actually need to acquire almost an entire new squad, and either a continuation of a manager who has almost no support left OR the recruitment of a manager who would accept working to keep us bobbing along at the bottom, just above the survival level.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, if that was the jist of it, but what if he was willing to "go again" properly - with a large investment. Now that the wages are down, the bomb squad's gone yadda, yadda, yadda, would anyone want him to have another crack? Or do we think he's shot his bolt and it won't work with him in charge, whether he starts spending or not? Probably all a moot point, I know...

Everything he's done for the last two years suggests the preparation of a clean slate for the next owner. I think he would have sold up sooner, but couldn't find a buyer in the market. Now we are a more attractive investment.

The worst possible scenario would be "I'm actively looking for buyer"-type of announcement as that would mean that Lerner's not gonna invest anything into the team. God I hope he's sold the club to filthy rich buyer who will invest heavily.

If he's got nothing to say that we don't already know he's better off not saying anything at all.

Announcing your looking to sell does nothing but damage the value Lerner would get for us.

Yes and our owner would never do that would he, or let his manager actively de-value assets but publically ostracising them, oh.....wait........

You can sense the winds of change in the air, much like after DOL's final season. Somebody like Klinsman plus a new ambitious owner, and the 2006 feelgood factor can return. Lets hope it happens quicker this summer than that though, because we only had time to sign one player in Petrov then, its going to take more than that this time.

Though having said that, my very point serves as a reminder that, a better manager might make more of this squad than Lambert did, much as MON managed with DOLs. Anyway, sorry im rambling, ive forgotten what my point was now... This is why i dont post too often!

An alternate theory: What if Lerner posts on this site and all this is just an elaborate way of destroying TBAR.

On second thoughts, nope.

Or Admin on TBAR turns out to be Peter Pannu, on the mother of all wind ups.

If Lambert really is in the dark about the statement then it is a shocking way to treat a senior employee of the club in my view, whatever else I think about his qualities.
