I thought Albrighton was unfortunate not to come on ahead of Andi or perhaps even start.

Westwood bossed it until he went off and it was no surprise that they wrestled some imitative back after he departed and Sylla came on.

We have too many players just not up to the mark, although you do have to wonder what goes through the mind of some of our forwards when they hit the box.

I thought we were the better side in the first half but as the game went on Newcastle stepped up a gear and we didn't. The late goal was a wounder and the Norwich and Stoke home games are massive now. I still think we need to be judging Lambert at the end of the season. I wouldn't want him sacked at the moment but I wouldn't want him given that new contract at the moment either.

Sports direct. Com reporting

Apparently sources close to the club have been made aware of something extremely embarrassing, which could cause Lambert to loose his job.

It turns out that Yacouba Sylla was recommended to Villa by none other than George Weah. Lambert was so taken in by the obviously fictitious phone call, he supplied Mr Weah with his sort code, account number and PIN.

This merely echoes what a number of people have said above, but what really annoys me about yesterday's game is that we were actually fairly decent first half, while Newcastle were very poor indeed after some pressure early on. Giving the ball away all over the park, losing ground in midfield and clearly lacking confidence. So in those circumstances, what would you expect to happen after the break? More pressure, a quick goal and then finish them off? So the second half was especially galling.

KEA, Bennett....Jesus, these are anti-footballers. And Benteke's touch was criminal at times yesterday. He does deserved to be dropped on that performance.

Hats off to all the villa fans that travelled up and down the country today . Heard you load and clear on TV and thank you all for being a credit to the club again today.
I was chatting to Newcastle friends after the game and they said they'd heard us throughout the game, even though we were right up in the top tier. I thought our support today was excellent and, to be fair, the team deserved it in the first  half. But at the end the  Villa fans  left in angry silence

That sounds dangerously like when my son's team were the whipping boys of his league. The club would get very patronising letters and comments from the opposition congratulating the club on the excellent behaviour of the parents and the encouragement they offered as they were sliding to yet another heavy defeat. Oddly enough now they are one of the better teams and the parents still show the same exemplary behaviour the 'compliments' are no longer forthcoming, fingers crossed that will be the case with Villa soon.

To me there seemed too many players going through the motions yesterday , newcastle were there for the taking and we sat back and let them off the hook- after a decent enough 1st half the second half display was totally gutless and several players should hang their heads in shame .

Not sure if this has been quoted yet but echoes much of what is said on here on a regular basis. Football will eat itself

We don't know how to win games. That and Cardiff were 6 points on a plate and we come out with 1 and no goals. Shameful.

All the points in the article have been made many times before, but that doesn't make them any less true. Funnily enough, I was thinking much the same at various points in the game yesterday. Is this what the all-singing, all-dancing Premier League has given us? Football-wise, both teams reminded me of 87/88. Except rather than paying three quid I had the honour of paying 27. Which is not all that bad compared to what some clubs charge (I refuse to pay 46 quid to attend the Theatre of Dreams this season, for example). For much of the game, neither side could do the basics like shooting on target or passing to a player in the same colour shirt. Absolutely woeful.

If you are a Norwich player or supporter is there any team in the country you would rather play after that great win yesterday than Aston Villa at Villa Park?  Hughton will be winding them up all week. Needs some key players to stand up and be counted!

Yes Norwich and their fans will be fired up to rub lamberts nose in it - will our players be up for it is the real question .
I find it baffling how we only seem to play for one good half in most matches and the motivational ability of the staff must be questioned - it really is a huge game and similar to the sunderland one last season - we need to be on our game.
