For the record I would hope it was clear I wasnt defending the use to the T-word, merely the perceived overreaction to it given the flippant manner in which it was used.

But as I have discovered over the years on this forum some posters just love to climb up on thier high horse and circlejerk over minutiae.

It shouldn't even be used flippantly, that's the point.  No high horse required to make it either.

Fair enough - if that is your opinion

1 – How do you think you’ll line up?
5-3-2. Bertrand, Clark, Vlaar, Baker, Bacuna ,Delph,Westwood,, KEA, Benteke, Gabby.

2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy?
Some decent results early on, generally dissatisfied with the performances though. Seeing Arsenal fans whine opening day was a highlight.

3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed?
Delph has been pretty good, Lowton at right back has been the biggest disappointment after the strong first season.

4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment?
I like him. I like his constant tactical tinkering. I am concerned however about his tendency to go direct too often.

5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides?
Vlaar for us & Sissoko for you lot.

6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now?
Sadly somewhere between 14th & 18th. I had hoped we wouldnt have to deal with yet another relegation battle this season, but we are.

7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now?
8th above ManU at 9th.

8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down?
Top six, not us or you so it doesnt matter. Going down it could be us so it may well matter. I think Cardiff, Fulham & Norwich.

9 – Scoreline prediction?
0-0 with a missed penalty.

10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be?
Cucumber. Cool as fuck and brings some much needed class to the salad of the league.

Thanks in advance!
Welcome!

I agree and I am pleased someone stuck up for Supertom when it was clear there was neither harm nor malice in his comment. It is obvious Graham Taylor is a man full of class and integrity.  Having lived in Lincoln for many years while serving in the RAF I have met a few imps who knew Graham and his wife and rightly hold him in the highest regard. Being forty something I remember his first stint at the Villa with great fondness. What an eye for talent; McGrath, Platt, Yorke and Calvin Hutchinson (?). Sometimes he even played Yorkie ahead of Ian Ormondroyd! A previous poster mentioned meeting Graham while in the company of Alan Green. What a contrast in personalities. One man a master of his trade with the humility and compassion to treat everyone he met with good grace. The other a churlish prig with a huge over-opinion of himself, who enjoys nothing more than jumping down the throats of those who have the temerity to offer an alternative opinion. In a way it is very much like the difference in posters you'll meet on H&V.

Hi, I'm from toonforum.co.uk and we like to ask opposition fans questions to use in our pre match build up. The questions are:

1 – How do you think you’ll line up?

Ask Lambert. Or rather don't we'll probably have about 9 different formations in the first half alone. Seems to baffle the opposition and work away from home.

2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy?

Slightly worse than expected. Too close in terms of points to the drop zone for comfort depsite multiple opportunities to pull clear. Home form dire. The Cup defeat to The Blades was particularly galling.

3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed?

Kozak done well before inujury. Disappointments - Benteke, Westwood, Lowton, many of the newbies

4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment?

Not good currently. Personally I think he is full of shit in his post match interviews.

5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides?

Our front 3 v your defence.

6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now?

Anywhere between 10th and 19th

7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now?

Anywhere between 8th and 9th

8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down?

Fulham + 2 Others

9 – Scoreline prediction? 1-3

10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be?

Thanks in advance!

I find the 'T' word offensive as well, I do hope you don't mind.

It was a lame, unnecessary childish dig at a manager from a newspaper who even today still lower themselves by bringing up the past of an ex-footballer who went out of his way to try and stop racism being acceptable on social media.

I'm sure the 'T' word dose'nt really bother him anymore, but to those of us who watched him pull this club out the gutter in 1987, he deserves nothing but respect. If you consider it an over-reaction, then i feel very sorry for your ignorance.

Just about sums up SGT. And Alan Green.

Correct. On both counts.

Love that story Fergal.

What I like most about Taylor is the way he handled grief he got for leaving Gascoigne out v Rep of Ireland early on in his tenure. He has never given a full explanation to my knowldge - just sited it was for non footballing reasons.
Possible / Probable Gazza was smashed off his head on the morning of the game and it would be an easy crutch for SGT to use that as the reason but he never did to my knowledge in order to protect Gazza. Every England manager since (other than Woy) would cetainly have done so to cover their own back

Sir Graham will go down in history as one of the clubs greatest servants.

This. Imagine the abyss we could have sank into in 1987. Instead, promotion at the first attempt and runners up in the top flight, 2 years later.
I just wish he had told England that he didn't want the job... Oh what could have been...

Everyone wold have been better off except for The Noses and The Bitters - not that either were any competition thanks to SGT himself.

I don't find it offensive. I do find it uttelry woeful and pathetic especially 20 years on.

The Sun - which for the record I wouldn't use to wipe my arse if I was short of toilet paper - has the reading age of an 8 year old so that age group maybe could find it amusing at the time.

Anyone aged 35 upwards should not need reminding of the job SGT did for us when we were at our lowest ebb in many of our supporting lives.

Yes, you've already said that but thanks for reminding us of your ignorance all the same.

Again dont mis charactertise my argument into the strawman that I called SGT a turnip or that I dont appeciate his time at the club.

I just feel there was a gross overreaction to a throwaway comment about what vegatable would your club be. This apparently makes me ignorant and somewhere between Robbie Savage and Paul Tait on the scale of "proper villa supporters" then so be it.
