Oh away with you. McLiesh was a poor manager, but what he aflicted upon us is noway comparable to any of the several delegations we've been through.

One thing I will say is that, thus far, this season feels very much like 86-7 to me, and I saw most of our matches that season. It all just smells of disorganisation, of neglect, of bad decision making.

There is just an air of something rotten about the club. In 86-7 there was a big emotional gap about the club because the manager, who was struggling, just felt detached. Now it is the owner detached from the club, and the manager detached from reality.

We keep on looking at bunches of fixtures and thinking "winnable games", but it never happens. We need to think about managing to score before we even think about winning matches. It just looks a bit desperate to me.

Even the "positives" we try to take seem to be getting more and more trivial. Like today. Played OK for 15 minutes. That's 15 minutes against a truly mediocre Liverpool side who managed to hold us off.

Really, if that's the very best we can hope for, then I think we're headed for a really bad place, probably the same place we ended up in 86-7.

That fifteen minutes against once great now mediocre opposition is the equivalent of that 'plucky' 3-3 draw at home to Manure that 86-87 season.  Where people thought that again as with several times that season we had turned a corner when we really hadn't.  Lots of comparables in my opinion.

The lack of goals is the main difference for me this season. It really is as simple as if you don't score you won't win. I really think this year is the one for us.

Interesting he chose to use the word "fickle" in that premature goodbye speech / ramble / statement .

You know I was thinking last night how nostalgic I am for Doug to take to the airwaves and let us know where he stands about things at VP. It's a shame the poor old sod is too old to give a half hour 5live interview.....bloody hell things must be bad.

By sticking with Lambert the club deserve relegation. Even all of those fans still willing to give him more time, they deserve relegation.

We are rotten. We will be relegated. Thanks a lot.

Quote
Aston Villa can confirm that Alex McLeish's contract has been terminated with immediate effect. The club has been disappointed with this season's results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans.
"The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this."

Villa chairman Randy Lerner said: "We need to be clear and candid with ourselves and with supporters about what we have lacked in recent years.
"Compelling play and results that instil a sense of confidence that Villa is on the right track have been plainly absent.
"The most immediate action that we can take is to look carefully at our options in terms of bringing in a new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations.
"

I really would like to write these words down on paper and then feed it to Lerner and co... they are killing our club.

We deserve relegation if we finish in the bottom three.

I would like to see Lambert replaced as I think it will massively increase our chances of staying up. But if Lambert stays and we stay up we won't have deserved relegation.

All those fans (I am not sure if there are that many these days) that want to give him time do not deserve relegation either. They just don't see things the same as us. Aston Villa is a broad church.

None of us can argue that this team, with this Manager, deserves to stay up. The fact that our failings are so bloody obvious yet not being addressed is the worst part. Like watching a slow painful death.

I wonder if on any of his trans-atlantic calls to Lerner, he has offered, or even contemplated giving his resignation?

I genuinely wonder whether they have any calls.  What is there to talk about?  Nothing ever changes

"Hello Mr Lerner Sir, it's Paul Lambert here, from Aston Villa sir; the football team you own in England... It's in Europe... What's that whimpering sound on the line Mr Lerner? Oh well, let me just tell you we lost 2-0 excellently today sir and there was a nice big crowd as well - who to? - Errr Liverpool they are a Premier Lea... Oh you've heard of them..." etc etc etc
