I've merged the Mail article thread into this one where it was posted earlier this morning.

It's not often I agree with Adrian Durham.

In fairness Adrian Durham usually speaks very highly of us and in particular always says that there is no comparison in stature between us and that other lot.

From the comments, I wonder who David from Solihull supports?

Quote
I don't buy the 'big club' stuff. They haven't won a trophy for nearly twenty years, they rarely come close to filling Villa Park, and unless they're battling relegation they could usually hold their end-of-season party in January each year.

Sty Dweller alert!

Or maybe it's that Bolton fan?

He should write to the Mail. :-)

Not sure where the stuff with Real and Bayern comes from

Think he just plucked out two big European teams as an example of who Villa should be 'mixing' it with and didn't worry too much about a completely accurate historical context.

But he's right, sadly.

You can only hope this will set down the same marker as the article that was a reality check on the Mcleish era.

There aren’t too many clubs who can say that the last time they played Bayern, Barca and Inter, they won.

Doesn't mean they support Villa. It's very sad but supporters of certain other clubs probably do visit here and vote to keep Lambert and the like.

Maybe they think he's fulfilling his remit as defined by his boss, and that the problems run deeper than who the manager is.

I am very disappointed by results but still want Lambert as manager because I like his signings and see some hope in where he is going tactically.

Not sure I will feel the same way by end of Jan if things keep going this way though.

What could the next two weeks tell you that the last two and a half years haven't?!

Nothing personal ciggies and with every respect but supporters like you deserve to be following Villa in the Championship or lower. I am tempted to suggest that it is because you have never seen Villa at their best but perhaps you have and you care less than most of the rest of us at what we have become.

Not sure where the stuff with Real and Bayern comes from, as we only 2 seasons in the European Cup, but a lot of good points here.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2907842/Aston-Villa-mixing-Bayern-Munich-Real-Madrid-right-Paul-Lambert-s-useless.html&sa=U&ei=jAy1VK2QGMiX7AbPjoHoBQ&ved=0CCEQqQIwAw&sig2=j-5btZnzK_6RF3FcRS3J7w&usg=AFQjCNFzJ_hg4ZmliY67r_o_yShxJtcLAw

Yeah a bit bombastic. We'd won the league once in a hundred years before this recent awful spell. Nobody says forest should be mixing it with the Bayerns

But we should be a top eight side and we had a two or three chances in the nineties to make the great leap forward ans didn't try

Fair play to you, your a more patient man than me.

I know what you mean, there's still elements of Lambert I like and I would love him to succeed.
I even don't think he's a poor manager or coach, I just feel he's lost his way and it's spiralled out of control due to too many changes of plans and ideas of how we're running affairs. I'm sure powers from above have not helped, the making of the Bomb Squad and squeeze on salary etc.

Sometimes a fresh challenge is needed, one for Lambert and one for us.
