Those glasses Lambert wears.  Do they actually work?

Given the red card I think that the substitutions were the right players coming on, the right players going off and made at about the right time.

That doesn't excuse lots of other things, but I think that was done correctly.

I agree, what was wrong was the starting X1, the formation and tactics.

Again though we just don't try to force matters until the last few minutes,  we've created chances late on in a few games recently which shows this squad can do it but they are just so tightly shackled that it doesn't happen until they get the instruction to push for the win near the end.  I've had enough of him now, it's not improving, it's safety first nonsense that isn't good enough for a side who are well established in this league.

It's just shit supporting the Villa at the moment. One point from Swansea and Sunderland.

What concerns me is that this shows all the traditional signs of that "get a decent result, get hopes up, follow it up with some awful results, manage to cling on to job" routine Lambert specialises in.

Of all his failings, his total inability to build on a win is the most infuriating.

That tactic of passing to a fullback from a goal kick is just a disaster waiting to happen. Lambert is totally clueless.

Although that's true - and I'm one of the converted, brother - losing at Swansea is no disgrace and the 90 minute performance wasn't wretched. We did rally a bit.

Sunderland have conceded very little away over the last 4 or 5 games. So a '0' today isn't as bad as it appears. Sunderland set themselves up not to concede and we found it difficult to break down. We do have some promise as the defence is looking stronger than at any time under Lambert, and in Sanchez a player of real quality in midfield.

That is not the same as Crystal palace. They will want to come out and win on Thursday which gives us a chance. I just don't trust this team under Lambert to give a performance that commands a victory.

It just makes you wonder, though, when we get to the bit where we start picking up three points regularly. Lambert always seems to have some form of excuse (injuries, red cards, bad weather, feng shui, alignment of the stars) but never actually delivers wins.

Or goals, even.

Sorry, that's rubbish, when the keeper has the ball whether it is a goal kick or just waiting to clear, the fullbacks should always show to receive the ball. This allows the keeper to pass to them or it drags the forwards wider and allows space down the middle.

Or puts unnecessary pressure on our back 4 more like. It's a ridiculous tactic from a ridiculous manager.

It would create even more space for the forwards if the goalkeeper kicked the ball at the corner flag and it rebounded along the touchline at great velocity.

Well, 2 wins in 15 league games now. If we lose to Palace we must get rid. True, there have been injuries but we are still performing below capability. With everyone fit, and considering the standard of many teams in the PL now, on paper this team playing consistantly should be good enough for the top half and i'm not knee jerking re Bacuna and Grealish, ive always thought they should be playing;
4-4-2
Guzan
RB Hutton
LB Sissokho
CB Vlaar
CB Okore
RM Bacuna
CM Sanchez
CM Delph
LW Grealish
CF Benteke
CF Agbonlahor
Plenty of pace there and should be enough goals. A few decent players on the bench also, Senderos, Richardson, Westwood, Weimann, Kozak.
Only one reason i can think why this lot wouldn't do quite well...
