A budget of nearly £50m, he hasn't been buying players with tiddlywinks.

He thought not having the ball, running around like dogs over the park chasing shadows and hoofing it in the general direction of Benteke was a legitimate tactic and that sums him up for me. He pulls ideas out of his arse with no real plan or passion in how to put it together.

We may score from a cross from a wide man one day and I expect that to be followed by a change in ''tactics'' with Lambert hailing wingers and how we now will always try to whip them in to the danger area. He doesn't do stats, I don't think he does planning either. First season it's kids, young and hungry. Next season it's foreign players, season after Premier League Veterans. First season it's high tempo closing down and countering, second season it's long ball, third season it's give up possession and bore the opponents into submission.

There is no plan, next season we could be signing anyone and playing any formation, I have no idea what and i'm pretty sure neither does Paul.

He needs to have a comfortable and consistent season first and foremost. Three season's in, a mid table finish would be acceptable, not being content with him keeping us up.

Keep Benteke fit and there's absolutely no excuse for not finishing comfortably in the mid-section of the Prem. We're lucky to have a forward that good as a club outside the top 4. Just like Swansea with Bony and Lukaku at Everton. And just like them we're waiting for the inevitable moment a big club comes in and takes him away.

He's sharp at the moment. He won us the Palace game and then pulled out another goal from nothing against Utd. Most of the pressure is on him to score but he can handle the pressure.

Lambert just needs to try and be more adventurous now with his tactics. Signs post Keane seem to point to that somewhat, but we need to see it continue and evolve further. I can just about understand parking the bus against 2 clubs in this league. But as for the 17 others we play? Fuck no. There isn't anyone to fear. This league is built on flimsy defences. The negative nellies will fall by the wayside, so we might as we get attacking. Get the most out of Benteke, and more out of Gabby and Weimann, and our goals tally should improve.

I just want to get back to going into games, even against Leicester at home, expecting to win not and just hoping for the best. just about every game we play we can see ourselves losing. That's the negativity of Lambert's tenure. Change that mindset and he has a chance but despite our recent run I still go into just about every game just hoping for the best but not really expecting it. That way even a drab 0-0 is a positive.

I'm being consistent and staying with sack him. Bare minimum for me is for us to finish top half and average at least a goal a game. If he achieves that I'll re-consider

You just knew that any signs of progress would result in another piss poor result.

There's a lot written about consistency on here and how Lambert needs to find some. The thing is that he already has; we're consistently shit. This is his third season and I've seen nothing from the team that suggests we're on our way back to being a top six side. Even top eight.

He's trying to get us to play the right way. The change, even if it was implemented in preseason was never going to be quick and easy. We've gone this far having to put up with some really dire stuff so might as well see where this is going. I really, really hope he sticks to it and most important brings in players that can make it better. We have a strong back line now, and with Delph and Sanchez two players that can help keep us in games. What we need is everything else up to Benteke to improve. Not a quick, easy or cheap project.

I don't like losing full stop, but at least I can ponder a future playing as we did today, rather than some of the poor stuff we have seen where you wonder how we are thing to play.

I didn't think it possible, but I saw Villa players move off the ball and into space. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I think we saw the two sides of Lambert today. First half he was tactically clueless; second half he showed what he's trying to do and it was encouraging.

I'd still have him out tomorrow as I'm sure there are better, more qualified people out there that would do a much better job than just strumbling along for two and a half years.

Anybody using money spent as an argument to attack Lambert is talking utter nonsense. £50 million split over five transfer windows tells it's own story. We spent £7 million this summer and that is a huge cause of the problems of the past few seasons.

I'm no Lambert fan but he's not nearly had enough cash to compete in the transfer market and his wage budget is also pitiful. That said his tactics and style of football over the last 3.5 years have been quite awful.

Benteke makes a lot of runs off the ball but we don't have any players that are able to see what he's doing.

I'm mostly annoyed with my £5 on Villa to win at 18/1 didn't come in. The useless bastards.

It has, there is no doubt. This new style is much better to follow and get behind. Had he just gone with this after year one when most of us saw some brilliant attacking football, and built on it through the market we wouldn't have endured anything like what we have seen in the past 12-18 months. He went from one plan to a completely different one coupled with a number of coaching changes. Is there any wonder we look a disjointed mess at times. If we can't follow how can the players develop any level of consistency? That's why it is critical it sticks to this latest approach and doesn't just drop it because the early results aren't great. The next two or three signings need to improve this approach because we are sorely lacking in a couple of areas.
