The size of the crowds is the bigger embarrassment.

Our away support is second to none, but a VP it is one of the worst atmospheres, due to lack of numbers and the Trinity Road fans.

UTV

You're now having a pop at those that go to the games?

The atmosphere is shite because we've been consistently witnessing some of the worst top flight football in Europe.

If you don't go you get slagged off. If you go to home games you get slagged off. Presumably only the uber-fans who go to Burnley away escape.

If we actually got behind the team and filled the stadium we might get a bit a bit more from the team and maybe intimidate the opposition.

And those going to Palace on a Tuesday night.

I applaud everyone who goes away on a regular basis. I also realise some people just can't do it for whatever reason.

As for the home atmosphere, ours is not much different to most other home grounds.

Yeah, and we might get behind them and follow in greater numbers if they show something resembling an ambition to win a game of football, and for what feels like forever that hasn't been the case.

Chicken and egg, innit?

We've not had a decent atmosphere at Villa Park since the mid 90's.  Arguably you could link the reconstruction of the Trinity Road and the Doug Ellis in with this.
In reality, unfortunately it's modern day football fans for you.  The younger generation havent' been brought up the same.  They are too used to watching games on Sky, so when on the rare occasion they visit they are completely alien to chanting.
I sit in L2, and when our little section starts chanting, people look at us like aliens have landed on the moon. And this has dated back for a good  12 years.  Every year I get tempted to move somewhere with a bit more atmosphere but don't because the seats are easy for my 61 year old dad.
It's really depressing.

Wonder if Lambert will get as much abuse from those loyal Villa fans as he did last season at Selhurst. A man with any sense of professional pride would have walked after the fans' reaction to that display of non-football. But we're talking about Lambert here, and he's shameless. And shit.

I was convinced he was a goner after that game. The abuse he got was lethal but he brought it on himself, he got is so horribly wrong.

West Ham were 4th and they didn't make any noise.

I am pretty sure Lambert dishing up home form as poor as McLiesh is the reason why the fans are staying away. We've been winning around 5 games a season for the past three years and playing really poorly in the bargain. Since McLeish, I calculate that to be 17 home wins, with 5, 5, 6 and 1 thus far from 62 games. That's £128.00 per win or specifically for me, 1 win for every 656 miles or one win for every £65.60 of fuel.

Its piss poor.

I pay to see entertainment but for me it's not really even about the money. I'm not ashamed to say I haven't been to watch Villa yet this season and I don't think i'm missing out, it's all too predictable and boring for me. Plus knowing i'll more than likely have to watch knucklehead Gabby do nothing for 90 odds minutes isn't my idea of an enjoyable experience anymore.

& you don't comprehend that the attendances and atmosphere is due to the dross that is served up by the inept, out of his depth manager?  I truly hope we have an atmosphere on Monday night, a 5-0 win with a cohesive, structured, attacking display would be lovely....however, 'if' the game goes to form then a McLeish vs Bolton would be equally welcome

From MON's last year we're now putting up with our 6th consecutive season of poor football at home. The average crowd had gone above 40,000 before that. Maybe if we had a decent product to watch they'd come back?

What is it with the modern day Premier League football fan, that they have to keep pointing out the ‘I’m a better fan than you’ nonsense, based on the fact that they are prepared to spunk hundreds and hundreds of pounds away following their team home and away and then criticize other fans who chose not to do this? We are all fans and just because a number of people on here have chosen (due to a catalogue of reasons) not to go every week, does not mean that their opinion is not valid.
Additionally, whilst I agree that getting behind the team is something we are fans ought to do, I equally don’t believe that it will make that much of a difference. Were Villa Park to be packed to the rafters on Monday night with 40,000 passionate supporters, I am sure it would make for a better footballing experience, but in my opinion it would still not be a game changer. Our issues stem from poor management on the field from Lambert and poor stewardship off the field from Lerner. I’m sure all of this would wish for a better atmosphere at Villa Park, but the truth is that most fans have had the passion and belief kicked out of them through 4 seasons of perpetual dross and no prospect of it improving any time soon. It’s no bloody wonder we can’t muster atmosphere reminiscent of great nights at Villa Park. On the occasions I have made it over since moving overseas, the atmosphere has grown steadily more apathetic. As Monday night will be my first of this season, I am preparing myself for an atmosphere of graveyard proportions.
