I've always been of the mindset that any incoming manager needs to understand the Club, because of our huge history. Based on this theory, I keep going back to giving the job to The Current England Under 21 Manager, and the Current Tottenham U21 head coach....Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu.

Southgate's U21's have looked impressive of late, and he's clearly come along way since his Middlesbrough disaster.

The same two people who left Aston Villa for a bigger club ie Middlesborough.

To be fair Gregory left as a player to go to Brighton for £500 p.a. more.

The only managers wjo didn't get Villa were McNeill, O'Leary and Houllier and through words and actions ably demonstrated so.

I'm not for one second saying that Boro are a bigger club than us (obviously) but they did go on to Win another league cup and play in a UEFA Cup Final.

I actually met Ugo a few years ago in a suite in the Witton Lane stand, he kept referring to Villa as us. I quipped him as he kept referring to Villa as 'we'. He said he had the right too after 9 years service, and trophies won and he thought the Villa as his club. He also confessed to wanting to sign a new contract but fell out with Gregory and it just wasn't possible for him to play under him and longer. Admired him after letting that slip.

It rankles with me that when he was interviewed and asked about being under pressure from above he just laughed like Gabby after skying another chance. He should feel the pressure, he should be striving to do better from fear of the sack because with his record he's not going to get another gig as big as this one.

How about a team of Peter Withe with Ugo and Tony Daly as assistants . I think as posted earlier we need a team with club connections.

No real reason other than all villa connected with coaching badges etc.

Equally I'd have john Gregory back or Kenny swain in some form .

most of you perverted fu**ers were thinking.

Is Phil Brown/Paul Jewell/Tony Pulis a better punt?

Whenever I hear Tony Pulis mentioned, I picture him as Beansy from Tony Soprano's mob.

Whenever I hear Phil Brown mentioned, I think of that cringey singing on the pitch, and that half time team talk.

Whenever I hear Paul Jewell mentioned, I remember that horrific picture in one of the tabloids of his sex face while he backscuttled his bit on the side (while manfully keeping his t-shirt on).

God that picture of Jewell was repellant.

Is Pongo Waring in a job at the moment? He'd show our front line where the goal was, at least.

Withe's managerial record - such as it is - is abject.
We need modern thinkers with the energy, dynamism and footballing philosophy to compete with the Mourinhos, Koemans and Martinez's of this world. But I agree, we also need someone with the passion for the club ... and that includes he Chairman.

If we are going for ex-players, I'd give the job to Martin Laursen. Perhaps no great experience but I can't imagine him with a red, flustered face and beads of sweat after a game.
Calm, intelligent - I'm sure those are the credentials for managing the modern, scrote footballer.

The manager and coaches do not need to be ex Villa players, they just need to be good and capable of demonstrating they are up to date with modern day coaching requirements.  A start would be teaching the players to pass the ball more than 5 yards to each other and teaching them that it is okay to step over the halfway line from time to time.  If they happen to have Villa connections then all the better but it isn't essential.

Players do not get through a trial let alone the various youth levels if they cannot pass the ball 5 yards. What our lot need to do is show some consistency, we have seen that the majority of them are capable of decent performances, we just have to get them to do it for 90 minutes, all at the same time and on a regular basis. That is where management and coaching come in and is what doesn't appear to be working.

I still don't think Lerner has any intention of changing manager, the current set up suits him as Lambert is acting as a firewall.
