I'm not a purist so this is a genuine question.  How much worse is Pulis' style of play compared to Lambert's?  If I recall, SGT's first reign was based on very similar principles and certainly wasn't total football, yet we all look back on those days with misty eyes.

That misses the point though, we want rid of lambert because the results are shit and we're crap to watch.  Gregory is roundly slated because under him we were fairly poor to watch, most of the people who'd had enough of mon before he left were fed up because we were horrible to watch too often.

I don't want us to turn into barcelona or arsenal, but I do want us to have is a manager who looks at those teams and sees why they are good to watch.  I want a manager who looks at the way Germany play and sees things that he can adopt with the players we have to make us a better side. Hell I want someone who looks at what Liverpool did last year and tries to incorporate some of that as well.  Basically I want a manager who doesn't think he's already the best he can be and that's not a trait that I can honestly say I see in any of the available british managers (or in our current manager).

Lambert has no interest in this and I don't Pulis has either

Lambert has been coaching since the others were let go.

And it shows

I don't know that is true - didn't Given say, when commenting about Keane's input, "we're having some coaching now"?
Prior to the two bully=boys getting the sack apparently they did it all and set up the team for a match.
What exactly Lambert does may be one of history's enduring mysteries...

We seem so brittle though.....as soon as Spurs equalized you knew what was going to happen.

To coin an aussie phrase, they are desperately in need of a bit of mongrel. Which is odd when you consider who the manager and assistant are.

They need a big pair of bollocks and a map to where the goal is.

Yep, we're mentally very weak, part of that is 4 years of relegation battles but there must be more to it than that.

So why has no new technical coach, working on tactics and so forth with the players, been appointed? Is it cost-cutting or just Lambert's belief that he can do it himself? It makes no sense, as Lambert had previously always worked with two assistants, one of which was a technical coach.

The thing is, it isn't about whether Pulis's style is better than Lambert's or not, that is a massive simplification - we've all come to realise that Lambert's style (at least how he has us practising it) is absolutely terrible, so saying another manager is better than that doesn't really mean a great deal when the bar is set so low.

I honestly don't know why so many people seem to miss the inconsistency in complaining about the fucking awful football served up by Lambert and then wanting to replace him with a manager with a reputation for having his team play some of the absolute worst football most of us have ever seen in the top flight.

What is the point of replacing a manager who can't get us to play decently with another one who has never got a team to do that with any consistency, either?

The same people who (rightly) are moaning about the quality of football whilst suggesting Pulis would within weeks be moaning about the same thing under him, except we'd be stuck with it for several years to come.

I don't want Pulis in charge, I want us to think about moving forward with an appointment not some short term measure. I want Lambert out, but I want someone who is progressive and can play entertaining football to take us forward.

Yep, the very point I made on Sundsy when I noted the dynamism, fluidity and simple player skills of Arsenal, in the MOTD.
We lack a footballing philosophy and a 'Villa way': this is not about the player-quality; it's about coaching, intelligence and motivation from the manager / coaching staff.
That's why we're in the shit - 'cos we don't have any of this.

The only thing Pubis, yes Pubis, would bring in is a bit more fight. Paulie is right, Tony Pubis is anti football. Are we not crap enough already? Get Moyes. Solid, point to prove and available so cuts down on the amount of compo payable.

After the last couple, a bit of charisma would be welcome.
