I think we will retain Lambert next year in the Championship. That's how bad the manager and team is and how disinterested or stupid the owner is.

I do worry the Lerner sees Lambert as a manager to cover all the bases and that if the worse came to it and we went down, Lerner thinks Lambert is the man to bring us back up.

Lerner will want to protect his investment and sale and that is more important to him than any misplaced faith in the manager. That was what did for Mcleish and that's what will do for Lambert.

As long as Randy is the owner Lambert will be manager. Lambert has done exactly what Randy wanted, cut the wage bill and kept us in the PL. Lambert can also blame his backroom staff for previous bad decisions/results. Our only hope is that Fox has more nous than Faulkener ever did, and sees that Lambert will cost the club and owner money in the long run, and get rid.
Let's be straight here, it's not about the results, it's about money, and unless we start losing money under Lambert nothing will change. As it stands we are probably making more money now than when we were top 6, in europe and playing in cup finals.

If Lerner and co didn't try and get Moyes in the summer they're mental.  Maybe they did and that's why Lambert is still here.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Moyes just wanted a break after his Man Utd experience. Not only did his managerial reputation take a slight set back, he seemed to age after having those arrogant impatient twats on his back every week.

Strange one because results based business doesn't seem to apply in Lambert's case.

Lerner chose not to sack his managers in the last 4 seasons during which we had 4 relegation battles. Maybe he didn't think relegation real possibility. If he doesn't now then he is safe.

He definitely needed the break and seems a lot better now.
As for us. There's no chance Randy even contemplated approaching a new manager, so I'm sure we never even considered going for Moyes in the summer. One of our prospective buyers? Who knows, it may have been in their thinking to get Moyes. But of course nothing happened.

The club is deeply mired in a state of conditioned defeat and underperformance and sitting at the heart of it is Lambert.

I feel for him in a way. He understands the history and the standing of the club in English football and I believe he is working hard to turn things around but he is now so closely associated with the malaise that is sucking the life out of everyone that even small upturns in form and results is going to make no difference now. The club, the players, the fans need a change now - a fresh approach, new ideas something to invigorate everyone.

My fear is Lerner is not close enough day to day to see this and he has people at the club not prepared to step out of line and say what needs to be said. He has shown admirable loyalty to him but we've reached the end of the road - no change means relegation this season in my opinion.

sooner or later there will be a tipping point and Foxy is going to admonish Randy over the harsh economic reality - what's going to cost you more, relegation or swallowing your pride and paying off a lame duck manager. Even the media are getting on his back now, several stories today about PL having two games to save his job. Let's not loose hope.

Lambert's appointment was a classic example of The Peter Principle:

"The Peter Principle is a concept in management theory in which the selection of a candidate for a position is based on the candidate's performance in his or her current role rather than on abilities relevant to the intended role. Thus, employees only stop being promoted once they can no longer perform effectively, and 'managers rise to the level of their incompetence.'"

I believe he is floundering and completly incapable of 1) walking away or 2) asking for REAL help.

If losing the next 3 games(yes I know that's depressing considering we've lost 6 on the spin already) meant PL gets the sack would people accept that??

No, I would never accept Villa losing.

Agree, if it happens he has got to be sacked but I'd rather we win all 3 even if that keeps Lambert in the job for another 6months.
