Isn't this just another example of how far we've fallen?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to us all hailing Lambert's brilliance after we batter Spurs.

Get him in and maybe we can get some favours from Real Madrid as we play a similar style of football.

Maybe he knows our ex groundsman who went to PSG.

What, as his assistant lol? I actually think it is a good shout as he will have contacts and knowledge

Pullis wouldn't last a year at Villa.

If Lambert did go this season I want us to do something different. I want us getting away from boring and predictable playing style managers that we've had for yonks now.

The problem there is that something different might well be the tipping point that consigns us to the Championship if it doesn't work out.  I remember the clamour on here for Solskjaer to be appointed as he would bring something different and look what he did at Cardiff.  If Lambert goes during the season, I don't think it would be the time to take a gamble like that.

In my years of supporting Villa, this is the worst football we've played, and the least excited I've felt about the team.

Sack him, get someone in who plays a better style of football, and give them financial backing. I'd like to see a European manager, with a good reputation who gets us playing with style. Not too much to ask, surely. Pulls and Moyes are just drab.

It has become clear by the granting of a four year contract extension to Lambert that the core reason for the collapse of the club into perennial relegation fodder is Lerner's highly personal and deeply irrational decision making. He is a football flake, a very rich one but still a flake. For some time like many other respected people on here I have put the barmyness of things he has done down to naivety. I was wrong, it is sheer perfidiousness. He mood swings from not giving a toss about the club to meddling with it as the mood takes him.
As we stand this morning November 2nd 2014 we face a month which will shape the future of the club for years. There is still time to act but we must act now. All through the ownership of the club by Lerner every major decision has been reactive. We have had to respond to crisis, never steering the club away from turmoil and trouble. This in my opinion is due to Lerner acting impulsively or not acting at all. We have no middle ground of forethought, planning or proactive judgement.
Graham Taylor put his finger on it when he said if you are to go forward first you have to stop going backwards. Stopping going backwards is our immediate priority. If that takes a baseball cap wearing, sport clothes wearing, peculiar looking, gurning manager on the touchline (Borussia Dortmund?) as a short term measure sobeit.
What must not be allowed to happen us further inaction and drift but I think that is what we are going to get.

I wouldn't want Pulis long term if I'm honest.  But I think he could give us a decent foundation.  At least with him he'd be organised and tough to pay against, as opposed to the chaotic rabble we have now.

If we're looking long term, then I'd throw a curved ball into the mix, and thats Paul Clement, who I think has potential as a manager (though unlikely to swap Madrid for Aston).

What a great shout. Apparently he was interested in the Brighton job a while back, so perhaps wants a managers job. Heard him on talksport the other day and talked sense and didnt seem a grumpy fecker. Didnt realise he was Dave Clements son (the ex QPR right back who I have just found out committed suicide)

There's a few stories doing the rounds that Clement is going to replace Wenger at Arsenal so we may have missed the boat.

Isn't it one rumour that boils down to Wenger supposedly giving the green light to Clement taking over at the end of 2015/16 season?

Yes but it's now on a few different websites

I agree with others who say that the discussion about alternatives to Lambert is somewhat academic, since the chairman has a poor record in managerial choices and anyway has signed him up for the foolish four years. However, here goes: would Rene Muleunsteen (sorry about the spelling) do a decent job? I thought Fulham were very quick to get rid of him and he has good credentials.

Villa spoiling Christmas by being rubbish is rapidly becoming a Yuletide tradition.

Brian, some great points there and you've managed to put into words why I'm really starting to think Pulis my be a really good fit for us, we've been a basket case for too long and need someone to address basics such as winning home games and making life difficult for opposing teams.
