Also, while I agree that the lack of both shots and goals is a concern, I remember in the Stoke game especially we were getting quite a few dangerous balls into the box from the full-backs.  The problem being that there was nobody really getting on the end of them, so they weren't converted into shots or goals.

Still not good enough, but in that case at least the '1 shot on target stat' was a touch misleading.  If we end up creating next to nothing (again) at QPR and the following games then that'll be very worrying.

Don't rate him
Never have rated him
Sack him now but it'll still be 2 years too late

You'd have sacked him two months into his first season?

The lack of shots is the problem.  Yes we've had a tough run of games but that doesn't entirely account for the complete lack of attacking intent.  I'm ok with less shots but if you're so meek that the opposition know that 1 goal will be enough you're just going to get dominated every time.

As I've said before, the biggest issue I have with the team is that they're all playing in fear all the time, as soon as they start to have things go their way we suddenly look good and start to look like a proper side.  Lambert needs to work out how to get the team to start games with that self-belief and keep hold of it even if things aren't going our way.

What I don't understand is that when Lambert comes out with this sort of nonsense, above, why no journalists really scrutinise him and ask him what the f*ck he's on about. Throw some of our truly shocking stats at him and ask him to comment, question him on what progress he has made since joining, ask him serious question instead of letting him talk the usual absolute rubbish.  Looking at the pressure that other managers seem to be constantly under and I really don’t understand the easy ride that Lambert gets. We just seem to accept that this is the way it has to be these days at Villa because Lambert is shit and Lerner, for whatever reason ( maybe Lambert’s got some incriminating negatives of him somewhere) won’t do the right thing.

Any road up, I’ve said this a million times before and I’m starting to bore myself

I'd make him answerable to Pat Murphy on a weekly basis instead of these eejits who are too worried they'll piss him off and be denied access to future ''pre-match pressers''. Murphy can be a grumpy bastard about us but he asks the right questions whenever he's covered a Villa game in recent times and you can sense Lambert shifting uneasily which is what he should be doing every time he has to explain another abject performance instead of the usual cliches.

I heard Murphy interviewing Paul Faulkner once. It was shortly after McLeish went.

He said words along the lines of "what were you thinking when you made that appointment?" to which Faulkner said "Well, it's easy to talk about these things with the benefit of hindsight", at which point Murphy absolutely refused to let him off the hook, and pointed out, for example, that you didn't need the benefit of hindsight to guess that it wouldn't have gone down with the fans and that he'd had Small Heath playing awful football that we wouldn't like.

I was impressed.

How many more excuses are people going to allow him really?  He should have gone after Chelsea.  He should have gone after Wigan at home.  He should have gone after Bradford.  He should have gone after Millwall.  He should have gone because of the bomb squad fiasco.  He should have gone for the comments in the lead up to and including for Sheffield United.  He should have gone because of Karsa and Culverhouse.  He should have gone after last season.  He should have gone after Orient.  He should go now.  What happens instead?  He gets an extension simply unbelievable.

Haha - his improved contract made sure he could afford it.

This Guy, I blow so hot and cold, unlike any other Manager we have had, I sit in the, continuity is a good thing and maybe we should persevere camp.
However giving him a 4 year contract is crazy, A one year extension with a rolling one year and let him prove himself.
I can only guess that the contract is Randy's farewell present for putting up with him.

We're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

On the one hand, I'm sick to death of Lambert's Villa and all the stuff thats been discussed ad-nauseam in this thread.

On the other, I don't trust the people in charge of the club to find a replacement that'll actually take us anywhere, and if they did, I'm not sure they could convince him to join.

So what happens now?

We'll limp along, just existing, until relegated in one of the coming seasons. Then something will have to change.

That really is the horrible decision we're in.  It could be argued that Lerner had employed a worse manager than the last each time he's had to make a decision, so where we go after Lambert would be anybody's guess.

That is what I think, too. Sadly.

If something is going to happen before we get into that mess, then ideally it'll happen soon, because looking at the shit crowds, people are quite clearly starting to vote with their feet.
