We watched different games then.

Well, the statistics say that Hull had far more of the ball than we did, and they also completed far more passes than we did.

I don't see how it is possible to "dominate" (in quote marks for a reason, specifically referring to that word) a team when they complete significantly more passes than you do, and have 55 percent possession.

here's what I mean:

Possession - Villa 45 Hull 55
Passes - Villa 342 Hull 463
Shots on target - Villa 4 Hull 3

Don't get me wrong, we deserved the win, in the first half we played very well, but I genuinely can't see any way in which we dominated them. That's our problem. We don't play in a "dominating" way, we pretty much never out pass people, we similarly don't hold on to the ball, teams that play us are always in with a chance and when they can pass it a bit, they almost always get something out of it.

Liverpool was great, we executed a good tactical plan brilliantly. The problem is, whilst it is nice to get results like that (see also at the Emirates first day of last season), we just never really seem to have a plan or enough ability to do anything in the majority of the rest of the games we play.

We still seem to play with a near total inability to string together more than two or three passes, and with a sort of brainlessness that means we don't even get the basics right.

12 shots on target in 8 PL matches - significantly less than the entirety of the rest of the league. That's pathetic.

Probably in the same way the Beeb site says "The defeat was harsh on newly-promoted QPR who dominated most of the match without taking the scoring chances that they created." They had 44% possession and the same number of shots as Liverpool.

Except we're not just talking about one game, we're talking about pretty much every game we play.

Once more, 12 shots on target across 8 PL games. 4 PL goals all season.

It's pretty hard to suggest those stats don't tell a worrying story.

I appreciate we're mid table, yes, we scored with pretty much every one of those first 4 shots on target, but if you carry on stats like that over the course of a season, you're going absolutely nowhere

incidentally, QPR also managed 6 shots on target today, that's over half our total for the entire season so far in one match.

We had 4 on target against Hull, which leaves 8 shots on target across the remaining 7 games. That's dreadful.

But you were talking about one game in particular, Hull. Who we couldn't have dominated with 45% but the Beeb have QPR down as dominating with 44%.

My signature applies here and your narrative is established. It bears no resemblance to the game I saw, where Brady gave them some impetus, but only enough to create one chance after an own goal. The game was won in the first half, it should have been more emphatic.

He's got a four year contract, he's going nowhere. Lots of moaning by "Villa fans" isn't helpful.

This is the thing we might have played decently against Hull and we executed a plan against Liverpool, but over a prelonged period we don't produce enough or play well enough. 12 shots on target in 8 games is pathetic however you spin it. It isn't just bad luck that our home form is so piss poor, it's because the way we play isn't good enough.

Be careful you do not lay any blame for that on the manager PWA you will be described as a "Villa fan".

What about the other shots on target?

I agree, it should have been more emphatic and we were much the better side in the first half - but we didn't carry that through the second half, and it wasn't much more emphatic.

And that is our problem - when we do play convincing football, it isn't for anything like long enough or with sufficient regularity.

The fact we're discussing one single match in these terms says it all - one match in which we had 50% of our entire shots on target for the season so far, and in which we scored 50% of our PL goals tally for the season, and yet still it is debatable.

Beat Hull & Stoke then you get a new 4 year deal. Pathetic really.
