I don't understand why he would walk and deny himself a pay off, so I doubt he's done that.

I believe he may be gone.
Your belief or something you've heard?

I'm not itk, I'm a very naughty boy. But look at the facts. Lambert has presided over one of the worst Villa teams in recent history and is far from popular among fans. The club is for sale, and will be sold soon. Any new owner will want his own man, so Lambert knows he'll be gone anyway. What possible good would it do to have an employee in a high profile role hanging around when he knows he's toast? What can he possibly do for the club in this interim period where everything is put on hold before the new bloke comes in? What good would it do Lambert himself to hang around if he knows he'll be looking for new job? I believe the awards dinner was cancelled so this situation could be sorted immediately. I believe he's gone to NYC to thrash out a severance package with Lerner. I believe he'll be either removed completely or put on gardening leave asap. I believe that children are the future, but not those ones with ADHD or really bright white eyelashes.

They'll cut a deal, he's only got 12 months left.

But why would Lerner want to pay a severance package when he could leave that to new owners potentially?

Golden handshake to show his gratitude for Lambert who worked under his restrictions? Wouldn't surprise me if Lerner would give him severance package if he knows that the new owners won't keep him.

Does it have to come directly from Lerner's pocket then? And given the loyalty that Lerner has referred to would he try to stiff Lambert over a years pay? And in addition, given that O'Neill went to tribunal after flouncing off, do you not think Lambert would have a fair case to walk and claim constructive dismissal given he can't effectively plan for the new season? Gives him something at the negotiating table at least.

Because it'll be factored into the price of the club? Maybe he'll offer the new owners a freshly dug flower bed to plant their seeds. Perhaps they won't want to make their first act at the club a negative one: i.e. having to sack someone. Maybe they'll want to arrive bearing gifts. In the meantime, Sid and Shay could take care of any playing matters.

Just a guess.

Unless he'd been promised a budget that will not now be delivered without there being a good reason for the change the fact that he can't spend the money he wants on transfers would not be grounds for him to claim constructive dismissal. You have to show your employer is in fundamental breach of your contract.

interesting & cryptic photo tweet from Stan the Man on Twatter. Villa Manager's Office door with Lambert's name removed.

If this is true, it would be a real indicator of change  :-\

wouldn't any severance package be factored into the overall cost of deal anyway if a new owner didn't want him?

Understood, and without knowing details I'm speculating of course.

After Lerner thanking Lambert for all he's done to date then there are only 2 reasons why lambert would leave now....
1) Club is sold and owners want their own man but wanted randy to 'sweep the decks'
2) Lambert is fed up and walks on his own accord

How long was it between Ellis sacking O'Leary, appointing O'Neill and then selling to Lerner?

It's either a massive indicator that a takeover is imminent, or we're up shit creek without a paddle.
