John Gregory ? Very good win again yesterday for Crawley

Yes, that's the exact kind of result that should result in him getting the Villa job back. Not. As much as a like John, and Brian, and Graham ... NO. Times have changed

what else can he be?  poor results, poor recruitment -in the main -,  poor football, and poor management, culminating with being asleep at the wheel for god knows how long whilst tweedle dum and tweedle dee wreaked havoc with squad morale.

cant argue with that

Disagree, events this week suggest to me Lerner will stick with him. I don't think there is an appetite to go back to square one and start again so he will be given every chance to get it right next season.

Are we not still at square one though Chris? There have been no real marked improvements made under Lambert in my view.

If anything, it gives Randy the perfect chance to change things round. Especially with Lambert having just over a year left on his contract.

As for the next manager?
Personally, I would like to see a partnership of Laudrup and Laursen.

I see what you are saying in that the league position has not really changed. My thinking is that Lambert has done what was asked in building a side without most of the over paid players he inherited, but if we replace him a new manager, other than those desperate for a job, will want his own men in and we go through the whole rebuilding exercise again.

Of course I might be misjudging it completely but my impression is that they will give him more time to try to show that he is the man most of us thought we were getting 2 years ago.

I really admire your defence of the indefensible. To those of us who see Mr Lambert with less rosy glasses, just exactly why do you believe he is worth persevering with when his record on every  KPI is a total disaster?

Lerner's mistake was not getting rid after the sheffield game

another season of what we have had , so depressing.

The thing with Lambert , today is the kind of game Villa could play amazing football win 5-0 and we all think , the change is here and then he goes back to 5 rubbish games.

I am neither defending nor criticising Lambert, I am suggesting how Lerner will see it and therefore what I think they will do.

Assuming no takeover, I would agree with Chris unless the crowd really turns. If we lose today and play badly then there will be fury from the stands, and as loyal as Lerner is to his managers this scenario has proven too much in the past.

If there's a takeover, he's gone. If there isn't, he stays. That's basically how I see it. I live in a simple world.

He can have no complaints if he is sacked.

However do not be at all surprised if the replacement, be it sooner or later, transpires to be even worse.

Even if we lose today, Lerner will still plan to continue with Lambert next season. The reaction of the fans today won't change his mind. A defeat against Hull probably would though.

This has been said a lot, and granted the board's record of appointees is terrible, but the shortlist last time was Martinez, Lambert and Solskjaer - that's a list which is not only consistent, but at the time was consistent with the search for a young, ambitious manager with a reputation for good football. Of course anyone who paid to appoint McLeish deserves the closest scrutiny when it comes to future decisions, but that shortlist last time was a good one.

Events this week point to him being retained. Albeit his authority has been undermined.

I completely agree Rob, if Lerner's still at the helm I don't see it changing. The next few games shall be very intriguing.
