Lambert must have known the restrictions that he would work under, Lerner might say that Lambert has done everything he required of him. I don't believe for a minute that Lambert came here to be mediocre or struggle against relegation every year. Did he underestimate the job? He must see what we see, surely?

I understand the need for cutbacks but there comes a point where these are counter productive. Lerner, as a businessman, must also know that. The whole club reeks of decline & without real investment we all know where it's going.

Our policy of buying cheap players from lower leagues or abroad was always going to be hit & miss, that should come as no surprise to anyone. Buying quality has no guarantees either.

Our much hyped academy has produced a string of, at best, average premier league players. I'd swap all of them for 1 top quality player.

Assuming we stay up, we've reached a crossroad where we either continue with the cuts and decline or we invest in the quality the team needs. Will Lerner stick with Lambert when season ticket sales plummet? Will Lambert stick around if Lerner doesn't back him? If we do invest does Lerner trust Lambert? Who on earth would come to Villa to work under the restrictions that currently exist?

Football fans are generally born optimists who will cling to anything positive, for the last 4 years we've had nothing but a few performances here or there. This decline didn't start with Lambert. It started when Lerner tightened the purse & it won't end until that is reversed, irrespective of who the manager is.

Personally, as illogical as it sounds, I think Lambert deserves some backing from Lerner.
Ain't that the truth. The harsh reality is that you you have to spend and spend wisely to ensure survival at least in the premiership. What we are doing is Russian roulette, we won't keep dodging the bullet. I really hoped we could make this work but I now see we can't but just changing the manager won't work either unless it's coupled with investment in better players.

I think that Aston Villa is now the embodiment of the 'Peter Principle'

"An observation that in an organizational hierarchy, every employee will rise or get promoted to his or her level of incompetence. The Peter Principle is based on the notion that employees will get promoted as long as they are competent, but at some point will fail to get promoted beyond a certain job because it has become too challenging for them. Employees rise to their level of incompetence and stay there. Over time, every position in the hierarchy will be filled by someone who is not competent enough to carry out his or her new duties."

This isn't solely a manager issue, the whole club is being run in a pretty amateur fashion. However the manager saying that he doesn't know what to do to change the home form suggests time is up for him. But if we don't start to invest adequate funds in the squad then we are going to struggle.

Just been having this conversation with an Arsenal and Manure fan in the office.
None of us could come up with a good alternative to Lambert - a lot the same mind!

Get rid now and let Sid sort them for the last few games...

This is why I think the club are getting a relatively easy ride from the fans.

There aren't many realistic candidates... and if there was one how much difference would they make working within the current parameters... 10 more points? 5 more wins at home. While it would be an improvement we'd still be in mid-table apathy-land.

Norwich appoint their under 18 manager? No experience of managing in the premier at all?  It's either inspired or complete and utter panic.

I reckon Malky Mckay will be there within the week.  Neil Lennon also sounded interested on MOTD2.
We need eastie here for some real intelligent take on this.
