Comparing Lambert and McCLeish makes little sense. They are/were both terrible in their own way.

McLeish.

You have to think something will change over the summer. A takeover which I think is highly unlikely, a change of manager which I'm not convinced will happen or a serious improvement of the squad. Since we do spend some money and we no longer need to bring in a large amount of players I am hoping to see at least three very good players come in. I think that is very possible and would actually lift the whole squad and club. People may well argue we need more but it is amazing what a difference three quality buys make to a side. I wouldn't be against a takeover or a change of manager at all but I would be wary of who we ended up with in both cases.

Harsh on O'Neill. He produced consistent results, unlike the disaster that is Lambert.
Which raises an interesting moral question: do we want a 'decent' / trustworthy guy or someone who consistently delivers a Euro slot but who is a snake?

Lambert's as much a snake as MON. He jumps to any club slightly higher up in the hierarchy quicker than you can say 'loyalty'.

You're bang on something has to change. Carrying on as we have been isn't an option.

Like most managers / players.
Difference is MON spent a fortune to get us to 6th then buggered off when he could not have any more cash to spunk up the wall.

Still, the fact that we ended up having to pay O Neill off makes me think there was more to it than him simply buggering off. We may hear the truth of it one day, but that he won his compo battle with us says something.

Who says he "won" his compo battle, barring some quotes from his camp saying that they were happy with the outcome? In any event, there are plenty of cases where, in law, someone might be due something, but in reality they don't deserve it.

We settled with him. That isn't the same as him winning.

Never. At least Lambert's sides go out with intention of trying to win. I remember when we played Man Utd at hom during Mcleish's reign.  The most humiliating, embarrassing, one sided few minutes of football I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing at Aston Villa.

I will never accept that Lambert is worse than TSM but that's not really important because it's just a personal opinion. What is important is that neither of them are good enough for Aston Villa.

Anyone who thinks keeping Lambert on beyond May is a good idea, I have some bad news for you...you're clinically insane. Keep a watchful eye outside your window for men in white coats.

He has to go. 110%, no two ways about it, he's not and never will be, good enough for Aston Villa.

The biggest problem, bigger than not having a good enough squad, and bigger than Randy's financial constraints, is Lamberts total and utter lack of any tactical nous and our fundamental lack of any sense of a game plan, cohesion or even the suggestion that the players have been trained in things as basic as passing and movement.

Displays like today have become the norm and not the exception and it's bloody awful. Clueless and awful.
