Wearing Villa shirts out
« on: January 29, 2014, 10:43:11 PM »
You ever wear a footy shirt when you're not at a game etc?

Only really wear them lounging around the house or maybe if I'm down the park in the summer. However I wore a 94/95 home shirt to Glastonbury this year and people were either shaking my hand, complimenting me on the shirt or having lengthy discussions about footy.

Any good/bad/middling experiences from wearing colours in public?

Yes. It should be illegal.

I had a darts night tonight. I also have a long standing tradition of wearing a Villa shirt when we play. I was resplendent at darts night bedecked in claret & blue.

I wear mine for running. Never wear it to a game.

Only ever wear the current one for games, at the end of every season it becomes another shirt to wear to the gym. Considering wearing my Weimann shirt to my lecture tomorrow though.

Never wear the shirt home or away. Far too dangerous for me.

I wore mine to the SCG. Immediately met another Villa fan from Sutton Coldfield, then a Sheffield United fan who thanked me (us) for not turning up the previous day, then an Albion fan who wanted to take a photo of me with his Albion flag.
I told him I didn't mind having a photo taken with an Albion fan, but I would not be touching his flag.

I wear mine quite regularly, especially when on holiday.

Playing games of football would seem to be the obvious time.

Last time I wore one as a fashion item was my 83 Champions of Europe top on the anniversary of Rotterdam in 2011. I was in Berlin at the time. It was the same night Barcelona ripped the arse out of Man Yoo at Wembley. That was an ace night.

Never owned a villa shirt since I was about 15. Would feel uncomfortable wearing one aged 48

I think they're an absolutely brilliant thing, one of the top aspects of modern thing. It just seems to symbolise a unity between the team and the fans, and particularly in summer, look ace as the ground is literally a sea of claret and Blue.

This picture comes to mind as an example, I'm not sure it'd be such an iconic image without all the fat blokes wearing the Macron.

Agree a great image. The look of sheer pleasure on the faces of the fans is what makes the picture so special n my view. Not sure the villa shirts adds anything

Would add that im not in the picture but my face was similarly ecstatic when AW scores
