Not sure what you are saying?  Super-G is not slalom, it is downhill with gates.   They usually use a slightly shorter version of the downhill course.

Super G is a slalom. "Super Giant Slalom".

A large number of the failures were because of a jump that, per the commentators, the competitors were not used to dealing with.

IMO, there's no need for Super-G. It seems a "false" event, neither a proper slalom or a proper downhill.
The word slalom merely means there are gates.   Super-G is essentially a downhill race with gates, usually on the same downhill course.   There are very few Super-G specialists, most the competitors are from the downhill field.

I don't disagree with it being neither a slalom or a downhill, it is definitely caught between the two disciplines - but I think there is room for it.

Did you see the two clash just before the jump and then basically fall of the edge of a cliff face ?

Not bad for Team GB considering the brakeman was a last minute injury replacement.
