The Dunlop match was against Eintracht Frankfurt. John Deehan scored five against Brann.

Must have been 11-1 then  :)
Have to admit, I don't remember Dixie scoring, 5 though.

Does anyone remember the Moscow Dynamo friendly in the 90s? Most boring game I have ever attended.

How about the Bari game, which was part of the deal for Platt going?  I think we lost 1-0 and Platt missed the game through injury (or perhaps he'd already forgot where Villa Park was).

Speaking of friendlies, does anyone remember us beating Feyenoord 7-1 at VP in the 70's? I think it may have been at the end of our promotion season back to the old First Division. Feyenoord were a pretty good team in those days as I recall

Willy Wombat I was at that game and I think it was in the 73-74 season. IIRC Feyenoord were in the run up to the Uefa cup final and sent out a team of stringers.

Was that the one before we played Inter in  1990, and vouchers from it got priority for the UEFA Cup?

yep 0-0 but it was just before the Inter game and you could get a voucher for a ticket to the next game.

I was at that one. I think their full back got a late winner. I have a surname beginning with J in my head. I also remember a game in SGT's first season against Monaco, I think on a Monday night and I also think we lost 2-0. Hoddle and Hateley were at Monaco at the time.

I didn't think that game took place.
I vaguely remember Doug saying something about them reneging on the deal, but was advised to leave alone.

As I say, though, I'm pretty vague about it so it might have been something else.
Perhaps one of the historians could enlighten me  :)

I'm pretty sure it took place but I think it may have taken longer to arrange than originally planned and also a home and away idea may have been reduced to one game.

Yes, I think that's what it was.
We were supposed to go over there, and if I remember they kept putting it off.
I'm sure I read that Doug wanted to take 'Action' of sorts, but was advised to leave well alone.
A bit hazy on the story, but, down Bari way there are big Mafia links.

I seem to remember that only the Holte and the North Stand were open that night.

I thought we drew over here but  I could be wrong. We were supposed to play a return game and a date was provisionally announced but later cancelled. I know a handful of supporters who had already booked flights and ended up watching Napoli in a televised game, which raised comment in the Villa Bugle after they'd been seen wearing Villa shirts on TV.

We were also stitched up over the sell-on clause in Platt's transfer, when he moved to Juventus for the same fee as we'd sold him for and two 'free transfers' went in the opposite direction. The self-proclaimed master businessman then in charge later said that he'd tried to complain about it but had been warned off and a policeman later told him that the threats had Mafia connections. of course - UEFA, the FA and Interpol would always sit idly by while officials of a Serie A club made threats to the chairman of one of Europe's most famous clubs. Presumably the policeman who warned Doug off was the same one to whom he reported the death threats that he always claimed he received from our supporters.

Wasn't aware of that Monaco game at all, it was only a couple of days after my first ever match (against Leicester).  I'm all for continental friendlies, it's the only chance we've got of playing these teams at the moment.

You are right, I was slightly off with my memory of the result! I do remember me and a couple of mates wandering round to the players entrance after the game in time to see Hoddle and Hateley whisked off in a Range Rover. Hately was wearing a rather effeminate long fur coat.
