Villa friendly (did I imagine it?)
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:48:16 PM »
I remember going to a friendly vs a foreign team at the Bescot bowl 1995? We won 10-1?
Or did I just dream it?

Rapid Bucharest? It might have been 1994 - I seem to remember John Fashanu scoring a few.

Seeing the other replies I think the 10-1 you might be thinking of is a friendly vrs SK Brann from Norway, at Villa Park.
It was in the 70's and Brian Little scored 6

Speaking of friendlies, does anyone remember us beating Feyenoord 7-1 at VP in the 70's? I think it may have been at the end of our promotion season back to the old First Division. Feyenoord were a pretty good team in those days as I recall

I remember that game- wasn't it sponsored by Dunlop who issued thousands of free/cut price tickets to their workforce?

I was at the Bescot that night - the 8-0 versus Bucharest - If I remember correctly, Nii Lamptey played. Might have been his debut.

The Dunlop match was against Eintracht Frankfurt. John Deehan scored five against Brann.

Thanks Dave. And then there was an early eighties, high scoring, friendly against european opposition where their keeper made howler after howler. After he fluffed a Peter Withe shot in front of the Holte, Withe's goalcelebration consisted of him pointing at the keeper and roaring with laughter!
