There was a distinct lack of optimism in the pre-match thread and yet here we are with the 3 points. Have a pint and enjoy.

Gabby was my MOTM. I thought he was brilliant. I've noticed he comes quite deep to get the ball now and is quite a different player to the explosive forward we used to know and is now quite cultured with the ball and a great leader. I can see him developing into more of a 'number 10' type when he gets into his 30s as he begins to slow down.

I agree PWS, i think a fit partnership of Okores and Vlaar, and a fully functioning CB, we would have been comortably top 10.

Don't bloody sound like you are happy dave,

Lambo's post match comments suggest that Vlaar remains fit. Seems unlikely, but fingers crossed. He said we are a really good team with everyone fit. Er, no. Really good teams are well inside the top ten. He also mentioned experienced signings again. Cannot wait to see who he has lined up.

We'd be top 10 if Vlaar, Benteke and Okore had hardly missed a game imo.

We are only off top 10 on goal difference as it is - with those 3 we would be higher.

BBC WM's Mark Regan has tweeted that Vlaar injury not too serious, won't be risked in cup but should be ok after a short rest.
Here's hoping

That is good news

Cheers guys

Such a vital 3 points today. It eases the immediate pressure on us and with the manager hinting at one or two experienced players coming in I am more than happy.
And as for 'beating a useless team', they had improved recently and were unbeaten in four games.

Won't be risked in the cup ? Jesus ....this is The FA Cup >:(
However I think we should see off Sheffield utd without Vlaar.

sorry in that case .... just seemed like a lot of people posting like we'd lost!, We won.  I agree we have some deeper problems ,but today we won and this is the post Sunderland thread, Not the" What's wrong with Villa Thread?"
No need to be sorry mate. Agree fully with your retort. I was having a laugh at the possession merchants. Never have been and never will be ashamed of the Villa come what may.

We've now lost once on New Years Eve or New Years Day in twenty years.

Wasn't that to Sunderland ironically?

Coincidentally - not ironically.

I was wrong on both accounts!
Coincidentally! (Sorry)
