Murray has to win it and he will.  I wont be watching though as I fear the Beeb are rapidly disappearing up their own arse. It's not that the show is particularly bad but over the last 5 or so years the show gets rammed down your throat as if it's something that is so worldly important it must be mentioned every hour of the day.  It matters very little in the scheme of things and should get the appropriate promotion in the weeks and months leading up to it's airing, not much at all.

Not only that the Beeb now have this very annoying tendency to promote their other programmes during such as SPOTY.  I had to watch the results of Strictly on Sunday night.  Something that should have taken 15 minutes at the most padded out for God knows how long with some dancing and music about cakes with the finale revealing a judge from that Bakery programme.  What's the betting there'll be a few sportsmen spinning round in ball room dress in this year's SPOTY?

I wouldn't call it "fish torturing", more like "maggot drowning" whenever I try it. Although I have occasionally managed to outwit a fish.

If fannying about on a boat is a sport, then so's fishing

I can't remember the last time I watched it. Maybe about twenty years ago.

Let's see, how many Villa fans are on that list?
No further questions, m'lud.

I'd love it to be Ian Bell but it will probably be Andy Murray and well deserved too.

I'll merge the threads and create the option to select up top 3 nominees.

Still no Phil Taylor?
Wankers.

Good. He's a horrible moaning sex pest.

Did he repel your advances?

No, that's why I don't like him.

Whenever I hear somebody shout "one hundred and eighty" now it brings back painful memories.

I watch SPOTY every year, its a Christmas tradition

best moment ever was when they bought Mohammed Ali on a few years back,
he could hardly walk and as he shuffled on to the stage the whole audience gave him a standing ovation,
don't think it had ever happened before, maybe only for the winner of the trophy if that, although there have been a few since, including Taylor if I remember correctly

but even amongst the countries greatest sportsmen of the day they recognised true greatness

You're still hung up on the "personality" I see.

I'd have thought it was pretty obvious, over the past few years, that "personality" wasn't a huge requirement to win the award. It's more just "sportsperson of the year".

Or we're you just being "funny"?

Murray deserves it every day and then some.

What exactly are you going on about?

Sportsperson of the Year would be a perfect title.

Interesting use of speech marks with a rogue apostrophe in what should have been 'were'.

In fairness I think it's pretty difficult to gauge somebody's personality when they play sport at the highest level. You generally only get to hear them speak when they're exhausted after a game or before a match when they don't want to say anything controversial for fear of firing the opposition up or making themselves look stupid if they go on to lose.

Better wait till they've retired, or at least gone a bit shite, to judge whether they have a good personality. Steve Davis is a good example, everyone used to think he was as dull as a Stoke vs Greece friendly, now he's gone rubbish everybody loves him!

And I prefer dull to those who attempt to cultivate a personality like the ubertwats Holloway, Barton and virtually every boxer.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed how Adnan Januzaj has been shortlisted for the youngsters award, despite only playing a handful of games?

Pretty shameless attempt to get him to commit his international future to Ingerlund.
