I'll say what I said on another thread - its an old-fashioned, outmoded event that is pretty pointless these days. Didn't Nigel Mansell win it one year?

I put a bet on Mo at 8-1 couple of months back on the off chance Andy Murray will call an umpire a ******.

No, that would mean he'd developed a personality.  I confidently expect the winner of this year's "Andy Murray Hasn't Got a Personality (but can play sport a bit (when he isn't sulking)) Award" to go to Andy Murray.

It's an outdated, old-fashioned event. I avoid it like the plague.

Tend to agree, Chris.
Sports people, these days, earn a fortune get MBE's, OBE's and even Knighthoods at the drop of a hat, so SPotY probably means very little to them.

Don't particularly follow tennis, most of today's tennis players seem devoid of personality compared to the likes of McEnroe, Nastase et al in their hey day. Do wonder whether if the same media exposure of today was around back then if they'd have seemed so interesting though.

Is this Murrays last chance to win ?

670 pages and Alex Salmond says nothing about SPotY ?

He may wll have sexually abused one of his groupies in the back of a caravan in Scotland and had his OBE stripped following the court case but the former ceramic toilet handle maker is the finest man what ever chucked tungsten.

If there's any justice in life, him and Bob Nudd would be battling it out for SPOTY year in, year out.

Not really, that would be 'who is the most successful sportsperson in the country' which is different, spoty should be a reflection of the person who has had the largest effect on the public.  Wiggins becoming the first ever british tdf winner last year was massive, Murray winning the mens title for the first time in donkeys years is equally massive and was reported as such.

I know. Although the words "personality" and "Andy Murray" are rarely used within a few paragraphs of each other.

I'll grant you Wiggins - a winner with a personality, but Murray? listening to him being interviewed is like listening to a teenager who spends his life in his bedroom, giving monosyllabic answers to his mother.

Not that I'm remotely interested in Sports Personality. Don't even know why I'm posting on the subject

I agree Murray isn't exactly an exciting person but he had a very exciting achievement this year, and that's why he'll win.

I wouldn't begrudge it to Murray, Froome, Rose or Ainsley, but although it is supposed to reflect the last twelve months I think overall McCoy deserves it for his entire career achievements including this year. Obviously for personal bias I would go Bell.

I'll give you Taylor but fish torturing isn't a sport.
