Pellegrini said as much earlier this season. That it was villa that pushed it through not Delph.
I think Pellegrini said that to take the heat off his player before he faced his former club.

Can you remember, or paraphrase, what was said?

Yes this is really bugging me I wanna know the truth what happened of why he left, which for me is what was told at the time....he was a Judas and did it worse than what Barry did, which before this happened I thought impossible. Proud captain and all that bollocks.
If that is wrong, well, like in Italia 90 Let's go f-in mental

So, what did Barry do exactly?
Apart from not taking the penalty.
And, giving the Villa the 11 best years of his career.

That interview with the News of the World is probably a big part of it.

No problem with Gareth Barry or anyone else wanting to go and play elsewhere.

As long as players are honest with us. Not muvh to ask?

Seems we got the last laugh on this one at least.
While we're being relegated? I'm not laughing!

I know, and I did see the irony as soon as I posted the comment. Still we need these small things to hold onto...

I was really annoyed when Delph did his U-turn and left us for Man City.

However I have it on good authority (straight from another Man City player), that Delph actually wanted to stay, but the club (Fox) told him they wanted him off the wage bill to save money and pretty much forced him to leave. He fully intended to stay at Villa.
Possibly the biggest load of bullshit I have heard in a long while.

I often agree with Olaf.

And I completely agree with him on this.

Even after a 60+ hour working week after running a half marathon on Sunday and a couple of beers tonight can see through this bullshit.

It depends on when you look for the quotes.

In the immediate aftermath of the transfer

Mirror Article

or
Mail article

where it's not mentioned at all.

Fast forward 3 months and the story changes

Guardian article

The same quote is in articles in all of the major papers, presumably it was given at an open press conference.

It's up to you to decide if it's because it's obvious Delph's going to get absolute pelters and he's trying to deflect some of the anger or if Pelligrini is needlessly dragging up a hitherto unknown element to the transfer that he makes this assertion, or if there's another reason altogether.

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has a groin strain and will miss England's friendly against Australia on Friday (kick-off 19:45 BST).

Manager Roy Hodgson has told him he will now be on the standby list and will not be in the 23-man squad. Ha!

You see I've no issue with Delph now. What was said above tied in with what my Man City contact said at the start of the season to me. That when we met he'd let me know what really happened, and that I could chat to Delph too.

Sorry... no he asked if I wanted to go up for the game 4 or 5 was it? But my son had a football tournament in deepest Surrey so couldn't make it.
