Anyone else on H&V think that to Delph, being a footballer is just a job? And Aston Villa are just an employer? And Man City are just another employer offering to double his salary?

However much you love Villa and whatever importance you place on Delph's words of loyalty, he doesn't know you and he doesn't give a shit what you think about his career moves anymore than you give a shit what he thinks about the latest job you took (or didn't take).

There is a monumental lack of perspective here.

If he had gone last weekend I would have wished him all the best and thanked him for his services and giving us 8 million rather than a free. But after his statement, I really hope he lives to regret the decision and messes up his England spot

1000% agree with this.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/andy-dunn-column-aston-villa-6093368

He's right.
Article is spot on.
We acted like a weak sheep allowing this .

Tell us what we should have done then.
With such a limp sell on clause I'd have sent him packing.
"I'd have written off around seven million pounds just to prove a point".

I take it you're not in any job where you control the finances?
If your brain can stretch far enough, how much brand damage do you think we have taken this last 72 hours ? Scope being potential incoming starlets ? Outgoings, ST sales .

My guess is 'very little to zero'.  I flicked through the papers today and they're hardly reporting it, other than saying Delph has joined Man City.  Very little about villa.  This was admittedly the London versions of the papers, and I don't doubt it is different in Birmingham, but to most people the villa part is a non-story.

They've been talking about it all day on national radio and last night as well, and newspaper articles have been coming thick and fast since Delph's treachery so to make out the Villa part has barely been mention is just cobblers I'm afraid.

What is "Villa's part" in this exactly............

But isn't Delph rather than Villa who have come out the worst? I think he has let the club down massively but we move on, we have lost far better players than him over the years and thrived. All of us wanted change and that seems to be happening now

I can't agree with the article at all. It's self evident that Delphs intention was always to walk away. £8 million is likely more than we'd have got in January and we needed all then old players we had. You can criticse the club for buying into the lie with the fanfare, but you can't criticse Fox form salvaging what we could from a bad hand. The horse had bolted, financially we did as well as we could.
And the broadcast of the video to 20 odd thousand freezing villa fans ?

Maybe because that's what 20 odd thousand freezing Villa fans needed at the time?  Everything about the club was shit, the fans had been lost, the manager was on borrowed time and a lot of the players had been written off, the club probably saw it as the right thing to do to try to build a bit of fighting spirit.  Given it happened shortly after the 'false narrative' comment it is clear (with hindsight) that sacking Lambert was an option but it wasn't their first choice, unfortunately the teams form was too far gone for a morale boost to turn things round so plan B to kick Lambert into the long grass came into play.

I'm utterly convinced that everything that happened in Feb and March was geared towards getting the team and fans to believe that, despite a truly horrific season, we were going to stay up.  It worked, that it involved some smoke and mirrors with Delph doesn't concern me greatly, and if he'd left last week I'd have grudgingly accepted it.  The problem is that repeating the loyalty claims gave them more weight and led to things like villan from Luton mentions above, where Villa fans spoke about how great he was for a week, only to be made to look stupid.

I do think our brand has been further damaged this last week .

How, Delph has made himself look a massive penis, but the club got 8 million for him rather than him going on a free and the club have stuck to the released clause and not been bullied regarding Benteke. Instead of moaning maybe see Sherwood signed a potential star today

The media write the entire story, yet they only see the headline. Have a think about that for a second.

That is by far the stupidest thing that you've ever posted. Read it back and you'll see what I mean.

That's quite some claim, when you think about the contenders for that award.

Looking through the press I'm not sure the headlines or stories read that way at all, unless you're already looking for the spin which looks most negative on the club.

Guardian - "Fabian Delph’s Manchester City move shows money talks louder than ever"
Mirror - "Fabian Delph sparks Aston Villa fury as fans slam "traitor" after Manchester City U-turn"
Telegraph - "Fabian Delph ridiculed after dramatic u-turn on Manchester City transfer"

All of those are on the front page if you do a Google search for his name.
