I just don't think the statements make him worse than a player who doesn't make a statement because he can't wait to get out of the door.

You don't think someone who says they're staying at the club, looking forward to the new season, not bailing out (paraphrasing), becomes captain, gets aq signing on fee and new wages from jan - July and then goes for a paltry fee is not worse than a player who simply just says nothing then goes?

Well I do. I see him as duplicitous a fucker as Barry.

Only because we all want to believe that he didn't mean what he said at the time.  There isn't a person in the world who has never changed his or her mind at some point.  It's annoying, we thought he was going to buck a trend and duplicitous he may be, but he has made a logical decision over an emotional one in the end.

Nobody can blame any player for moving on for the chance to win things and treble their salary, I'd do exactly the same, however it's the litany of lies that makes this so much worse.  The only reason for inserting the £8m clause was to force a move as soon as possible, and for any of the Champions League clubs, the chance to sign a young England International for relative peanuts was never going to be passed up.  So all the bollocks about this being his club, staying here for years, and leading us into the new season as captain was just utter lies.  And I don't like liars.

Lies or just emotional statements?  The definition of a lie is a deliberate mistruth, do we really believe that Delph released that statement while he still had the intention of pissing off five days later. He changed his mind and has come out looking stupid but he was genuinely torn over whether to stay or not, that's all.  I do believe this was a very hard decision for him and that's why it ended up being such a saga.

Must have been tough decision for the poor twat, whether or not to fuck the Villa fans over twice in a week. Clearly couldn't give a shit.Fuck him, I don't give a shit about him now, hope injury dogs the rest of his career

Aside to Gueye and Amarvi joining (good news), I now want some assurances from fox / Lerner that sherwood will get the proceeds of the 2 sales (net £36m say) plus with all this TV money Lerner needs to commit another min of £25m , so sherwood has about £60m to rebuild . We need at least 4 or 5 quality players in the door sharpish .

We will not be spending £60m this summer. Unless every single one of the Lambert disaster signings leave it would blow the wage bill sky high again.
We've got shot of loads though bent, given , Weimann, lowton, Sylla, Delph, Benteke .

Probably £300k p/w I'd guess at. Amavi, Richards and Gueye, what's that £150k wages? You aren't going to get £60m of players in on the remaining £150k a week.

Agreed, may Calf injuries plague him and Ron for the remainder of their living days. (maybe a bit over the top but meh)

Hard decision or not, surely the best policy is to keep quiet until you know for certain. He might have made his mind up to stay at that second, but surely inside there would have been a bit of conflict if he knew there was still a chance he was going to do this.

We've all had to backpedal from decisions and things we've said in the past, there's nothing wrong with that. This is in a different league however, and he has been made to look like a monumental twat by all parties concerned. To come out and publicly say those things was far worse than just keeping quiet and letting the internal conflict within him resolve itself.

He's not the best midfielder I've ever seen in a Villa shirt, and whereas it's a loss, I'm more worried about how to replace Benteke.

Like I said it my first post, I expected to be alone!  I am sure he regrets speaking last weekend before he had resolved the internal conflicts (and let's not forget he has a massive life event going on at the moment as well) because it has made him look like an idiot and will draw a lot of criticism, as well as making his early days at Shitty even more greatly pressured.  He just seems guilty of struggling to make a decision to me, unlike previous players who have gone to the papers to force moves, stopped playing in actual matches or just packed up their trumpets before they have even signed.  Those are all worse for me.

But whatever, zero goals, three assists is not exactly impossible to replace.  Great player, especially for where we are now but miles away from being irreplaceable, unlike Benteke.

Not only was Steve Hodge a better man than Fabian Delph, he was also a better footballer and a greater loss.

Now there's a sentence I thought I'd never write.

Better players?  I can't judge because I am too young that but was he heck a better man.

I'd give up mate, your banging your head against a brick wall

I don't disagree with some of your thoughts, but there are to manny haters now, it makes people feel better if they can hate someone for there own personal disappointments it's one of the foundation bricks in human behaviour

Delph has covered himself in a bucket load of shit from which he will never recover
