Does it need to have come from somewhere other than normal income that the club has?

At a push I'd guess it's coming from the same place that it always was, and the people linking the 2 were wrong.

Because the media had him down as all but in a Man City shirt does not make it a fact he was definitely going.  It also doesn't necessarily make it a U turn either.  There may well have been interest, Man City may well have talked to his agent but that might be as far as this thing got. The other conjecture is this release clause.  Might that not be media driven too?

Never expected to hear this news.  I was certain he was off.  Obviously he was big enough to think "can I really do this to a club that's stuck by me in hard times".  Well done Fabian.

Oh and Rodney Marsh is a Grade 1 pillock.

@RodneyMarsh10 Delph happy to stay at a club going nowhere rather than trying win a place at City.  Interesting.

@RodneyMarsh10 Great.  Sitting by the pool in Florida drinking Starbucks and reading tweets from dopey Villa fans.

I'm inclined, given its persistence, to believe it exists. BUT with the proviso that we went down.

Considering all the media were reporting it, including the more reliable places, and his pictures had been taken of the club website/social media, and posters of him had been taken down in the club shop, I think this deal was as good as done.

I notice that one of the City blog sites now has him changing his mind AFTER he'd had his medical.

Still to see just one shred of evidence that this deal was ever even on.

OK, even if we assume that virtually every single media outlet in the country was wrong, why did Villa take him off the website and his posters down from the the shops if nothing was going on?

I'm not. I think he was caught up in more important family issues and dealt with things when he was able to.

Occam's razor. The speculation was everywhere sans evidence - when things were sorted at home he said something. This came from the Birmingham Mail and was picked up by media outlets that should know better. Want to be pissed off with anyone? Be pissed off with our local paper that does nothing but antagonise the fanbase of the biggest club in the Midlands.

I kinda missed the furore yesterday other than texts,

what exactly was said (by whom)

and what do we know know is fact?

Did Man City trigger the clause and Delph rejected them?

Do we know for certain that the clause exists?

Nothing official by anyone.
Nothing.
Dunno, dunno.
No.
Have a look back. Page 106 was where I was accused of being a nose because I would not slate him. 😙

People have different settings (i.e 5/50 posts per page etc)

Talksport are going to discuss Delph at 9pm. Didn't catch whole host is but he thinks it's brilliant that Delph turned down a money move because of loyalty to us.

I think there's definitely more to it than anyone offering £8m gets a chance to talk to him.

I also think that there are plenty of explanations for what has happened in the last couple of days, my favourite has come from a Norwegian friend who said he'd read something asking if it could've been a bit of a gambling related ruse?  The idea being the chances of it happening get talked up hugely, with the dropping of a story about a release clause and a drip feed about Man City being interested, that makes it a bit of a market and then either the bookies make money during a quiet period or slightly dodgy types who'd created the story bet the other way and make some money with some insider knowledge.  All a bit too conspiracy theory for my liking but the betting patterns for it could be interesting to see.

I honestly expect us to be taken over in this coming week. I find it hard to fathom why Delph would want to stay otherwise.

I could be wrong of course!
