I just Fabian had second thoughts.. England Squad, captain of a great club..

May well be just that. It's happened to me in my career and I daresay others on here, it can sometimes be just that simple. Perhaps mixed in with a little bit of what he has been reading and hearing from both Man City and Villa fans?

For some reason all the talk of banners has made me this of the graffiti on Partridges car changing from cock, piss Partridge to cake, pass, Babtridge.

I have no idea on the reversal, but... the net was awash with derision for his January quotes, mostly from non-Villa people. Mabe a twingeing conscience?

Like everybody else I am shocked and I don't know what to think. Perhaps he has been told information that we are not privvy to. Perhaps the takeover is imminent. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

Anyway Fabian Delph I am glad you are staying.

Wow! Not sure whats happened in the last 24 hours but its definitely good news if he's had a change of heart or whatever other reason for this U-turn in reports...but I'll stand by my statement that he's a wanker if he was actually on the move (I believe in second chances so he can earn my respect again with performances on the pitch).

Delph leading the club as captain and alongside Gueye in midfield puts a whole different perspective on our prospects and gives me hope for next season.

The club really need to address Delphs contract situation if this £8m release clause does actually exist...it just makes a mockery of signing a long term contract if the release clause doesn't match a realistic valuation of the player.

Or perhaps there was no reversal at all and Delph was simply with his missus looking forward to a new baby and not really bothering to read the tabloid invention of the day.

Clutching at straws but may be his new baby popped out wearing a Villa shirt...and Delph had a moment of clarity??

As ciggies said. He has been busy with family stuff, knew about the speculation but quite rightly ignored it whilst making sure his family were ok, at which point he quashed the speculation that was completely media-driven.

The only disappointment is that the story seems to have come from the Birmingham Mail.

Maybe we've upped his package ?

The realisation that he would not be playing first team football, spend nine months getting splinters in his bum and watch his England career go to waste?

Wife has told him she would hate being anywhere near Manchester?
