I hardly think Man City will be paying him peanuts as they've had to find a £8m fee, they probably have that down the back of the settee.

The club knew he would be off like a shot and Delph was a willing contributor to the deceipt. He was probably well paid for his part in it.

It hurts more because in the scummy world that has replaced the beautiful game it was nice to have one person who restored your faith a little bit. It was nice to have a club captain to be proud of. After that speech, i expected him to be the one that took us forward and dragged this club back to where it belonged. Ironically, less than 6 months later he has fucked us off to go and make big money playing half a season for the plastic club built on oil money. You literally couldn't make it up....i do feel very let down.

Couldn't agree more.

I don't feel let down by Delphs statement a few months ago, because I just don't take much of what they say seriously,
its all just marketing bullshit and spin, I doubt any footballer has ever written down more than a couple of sentences themselves, its not that they are liers they are just part of a system of corporate flannelling

when we sign a new player and he comes in with ' its really great to be here, villa are a massive club' we all think oh he seems genuinely glad to be at VP, but in truth its just football small talk, theres no point taking it to heart, yes they will be glad at a certain level, wages big club, but in reality don't expect any loyalty because villa arnt good enough at the moment to command that

Giggs Scholes were loyal to Man Utd, were they ?
or maybe it was because they were both great players playing at a club that won the league more times than not, bet they wouldn't have been so loyal if they were at Crystal Palace

for those who feel hurt and let down by Delph and are over the age of 14 then you need to get a grip, footballers talk shit, and they will carry on talking shit,
the next one that comes through the door at VP and starts telling everyone his delight in joining just don't take it to heart,
the only thing that really matters is a players performance on the pitch, what they say is on the same level as what a politician says

Delph has been great for Villa, a good captain and always gave 100% on the pitch, and that's what I will remember
I am very disappointed to see him go as I rate him highly, but I never believed a word he said about villa being 'his club'

Hardly Delph's fault he was seriously injured. And again, he may well have meant it at the time and something has changed between then and now.

How many here have been very happy in a job, and had a change at management or whatever and within 6 months couldn't wait to leave? I bet there's a few of us. I'm not taking it as read he's a Judas shitehawk, although that could be the reason he's off.

He negotiated an £8m buy out clause! He didn't mean a single word.

This

Exactly this.

We've all changed our minds about stuff, but he put that clause in AT THE TIME.

When he looked straight into the camera and said 'This is my club' 'I've committed my future' 'I'm going to prove there's still loyalty in football', the escape tunnel was already built.

If Man City had just come in with a big bid, which they could and maybe would have done anyway, then he could seriously go with my blessing, but it's not about the money, it's about the fact that he was already halfway out the door when he said all that stuff.

Can see your point of view John e, but he didn't need to give out that load of tosh, just say you have signed a new contract and leave it at that.
Really no need to state how great the club is, how much he loves and owes the club something, when it's obviously utter bollox.
For me, it has changed my whole opinion of the money grabbing scumbag.
Hope he spends his time on the bench and loses his England spot, total wanker.

He certainly didn't pick his words particularly well, but I'm guessing that he didn't ask the club to broadcast it on a big screen and make a massive deal out of it.

I don't blame him for going and I don't blame the club for accepting the £8m clause

They obviously need to herald the signing with some fanfare and there's no suggestion the deal was lined up earlier. Frankly citeh would presumably have preferred wilshere

But he could have toned down the comments knowing he could be off

But I'm sure he would have been asked permission to do so?

I didn't see this interview with Delph and Fox. Makes thee blood boil.
Good find.
I think this shows some naivety on the part of Fox.
Making such a big deal of a player re signing was a bit 'small time.

And essentially, all it has done has emphasised how he was well and truly mugged off, and how he has fucking well mugged us off too !

Well if he didn't expect the film that was shot to be used for publicity purposes, it's the most naive and unbelievable reaction to being filmed since Sharon Stone absent-mindedly forgot her Alan Whickers in Basic Instinct.

My feelings about Delph? He's really only smeared another thin layer of cynicism and ambivalence on my general view of modern football.

Maybe he's just another dumb footballer who, lacking the ability to think for himself, believed all the bullshit the club were feeding him about new owners coming in, throwing money at the squad for a bright shiny new Villa future...and so he signed his contract, and basically read out all that loyalty shit from an autocue.

Six months later, his agent tells him that there is no new owner, and he's facing the same old depressing struggle he's had to put up with over the last 3 years...But luckily the agent had a release clause inserted just in case the club went down and/or were lying through their teeth about new ownership, so it's off to play the last 20 mins at City because Yaya Toure's shagged out after an hour these days...Hoorah!

Eh? I expect that he was fully aware that it was going to be used for publicity purposes. He was probably also that it was going to be put on the big screens at half time.

What I'd be very surprised by is if the fanfare surrounding the contract signing was his idea rather than the club's.

Why not just be honest? Most fans can sympathise entirely with a player wanting a shot at winning medals. We just don't like being treated like idiots.

I much prefer the Assou-Ekotto approach, personally.

FWIW, I agree with jon e. There is no such thing as loyalty in football where money is concerned. In or out, players will spurt shit if it means getting what they want.

Onwards and upwards I say, Fuck him and the horse he rode in on. And that also goes for Benteke to if he decides to leave.
