The speech thing, and him posing for the new kit is a pisser. Although for all we know something has happened that's made him change his mind. And i'll be honest, if I was Delph i'd be off to Citeh without a second thought. But he will look a cock when/if he does after the "my club, loyal, blah de blah" stuff.
On the flipside, I bet the day before he signed the new contract pretty much none of us expected him to. So we were expecting him to leave for smeg all, at least we've got £8m back for him still leaving. I like him too much to hate him, he will become a cock though. Assuming he leaves.

When I say a bit of a twat, what I really mean is a Downing level thundercunt.

up until the kit launch, I fully expected Delph to leave because £8m for young English player would be impossible for a club like City to ignore.
However, the kit launch had me convinced he was staying. Why would the player or the club do that kind of marketing if there was any chance he was going?
The only thing I can think of is that City initially told Delph/Villa that they weren't interested and then changed their mind.

My head says, at least we got £8m for him and I suspect he does love the Villa, hence the reason for signing a new contract as it means we get something (although I am sure the bumper pay for 6 months didn't hurt too much).
My heart says he's a complete prat who went way over the top with his loyalty rubbish, given that he will have known he was off in the summer. Couple that with the amateurish way the club paraded his deal around and then put him front and centre of the kit release all makes for a fairly depressing afternoon. Oh and Murray is getting beaten too. At least the cricket is going alright.

Perhaps he's heard that the new owners don't rate him and are buying Messi.
I've gone for a positive spin

I like my exaggerations but this is easily up there with the worst of villa scumbags.
I could have understood him leaving in January or even saying to the fans that he will stay until the end of the season.
The speech...sickening.
Do this Fabian and You will be remembered like no other.

He didn't need a buy out clause to go to City. They're buying Shaun Wright Phillips II for £50 million.
We get back what we paid on him, not including inflation, which makes it a loss, after sticking by him through all his injuries, developing his career, giving him the platform to play for England. He gives it the big club man speech.
He deserves all the Downing treatment he's got coming to him, the weasel.

I don't think having a good clear out is necessarily the worst thing in the world. Even if Benteke follows Delph out the door, as seems likely, we've been seriously diabolical for years and maybe it's a chance to have a fresh start. Ideally you don't lose your best players, but Southampton managed well last season after losing major players and if we can somehow find decent replacements and boost the rest of the squad then I'm sure we can still find a way to progress.

As has been said looking at it rationally, nobody should be overly upset at him improving his place in the game. We all want more out of our careers. It's the gushing love that came with it that is utterly detestable. You don't say all of that knowing full well the contract you signed and the intent that he had. Yes we got a bit of money but we could have had all of this with the Churchillian speech. And as Olly says, why not £12m or £15m. Both numbers Man City could find lying on the floor in their boardroom.

I wonder what exciting times Stan was referring to the other day? presumably not this kind. It seems we're simply going to be spending sales money this window.

I hope his rotten first touch and lunges and subsequent suspensions get highlighted on a regular basis at Citeh. If he stays, I hope his skills and energies push us to 8th and another trip to Wembley #win-win

More bad news for our club then. Not even signed his replacement yet..Could it be he has been tipped off there will be no takeover and matters will carry on as normal?

So Ron fucks off for nothing and hardly a wimper.
Delph gets us £8m, helps us stay up and is a pariah?
And yes, I understand the 'my club' bit, but I'll take the £8m thanks.

The club have taken us for fools. In a way I can handle that. It's them, and Delph thinking that we don't know we're being taken for fools is what pisses me off.
Best players being sold off has been done to us many times before and, sadly will happen again. Feelings are running high but, we'll get over it because we have to. This club is bigger than any Fabian Delph's and Christian Benteke's.*
* Just in case he leaves.

I'm sure Stan wasn't referring to specific examples, but the overall direction. We can certainly get past this and on to better times.
