How can a player (an England international no less) negotiate a measly £8m buy out clause and claim to be loyal. Asshole.

And, having agreed to it, why would any club make a big deal about the contract being signed?

Blatant acceptance of our new status in the game as, at best, a stepping stone club. Still, that's about all they aspire to, shouldn't really be a surprise.

I'm now wondering what is happening behind the scenes with Benteke.

For the total and utter bull shit he spouted he should be ashamed! He deserves all the stick coming his way

Well we've essentially done the same with Benteke, haven't we? Sign the contract, but you can have a buy-out clause. Very little chance of keeping him, unless our signings magically convince him that we can compete with Liverpool and Spurs.

I think the only thing the club have done wrong is making those new kit pictures of him pointing at his armband. Getting £8m (or whatever it is) for him knowing he could have left for nothing was good work really. It's not enough, but it's better than nothing.

The difference being that £32.5 million is probably Benteke's market value.

There is that, but he didn't have six months left on his deal when he signed.

This is a great day for Villa to bury bad news after the traumatic departure of Luna announced earlier.

If he hadn't come out with the big I love Villa speech, I don't think I'd mind as much. As it is, I think we look a bit daft and Delph looks a bit of a twat.

Ta Ra, Fab, expect the same abuse when you come to town, we'll all be waving fivers at you like we did with Barry.

Good job you left man, you wouldn't of got in the team with Gueye coming.

Agreed.  Although the PR should probably have been toned down at renewal too.

I could understand £8m being the release clause if we'd been relegated, speech and all.

I can't understand the combination of the speech, the £8m fee and the high profile captain's armband on the new kit this week, and then he's off to make up the homegrown numbers elsewhere.

it's disappointing from him.

From martincurry85 on Delphs Instagram....

You shitbag! I hope your career fails and you never play at City under BETTER players like Silva and Nasri. You're not good enough to be there and have pissed all over the Villa fans! You had us all behind you and our support. Now your back to being a nobody warming the bench season after season you silly little idiot. No football reasons here you money hungry ******. No more England caps for you either just look at all the other players that fizzled out at City. #GoneAndForgotten

Thumbs up.

The £8m we will get for him, that we wouldn't have done had he not signed, will probably just about cover the wages we paid him while he wasn't playing.
While we stood by him and gave him a new contract following his long term injury.
While he sat in the stands because of his suspensions.

He is quite easily replaceable.

And that's the issue. Benteke's buy out is fair. If Delph loved the club like he claimed he could have put in a £15 million clause and still gone.

I was going to mention that. It does make me wonder if this is something the club wasn't expecting to happen as soon as it has.
