I think it's all rubbish. If Man City had wanted him, they'd have made an approach before he signed a new contract. They've got money but they're not that stupid.

Stop being so rational.

We're Aston Villa, we'll panic when we want.

I don't actually think he's good enough for them anyway, he's a player that would, in my view, keep you top 4 but would not be in a PL winning side

No chance he'll end up at City. I know they need to make quotas but they shouldn't be allowed to poach players that they only intend to keep in the matchday squad, just to make up numbers.
I think they'd be more likely to spunk some money at a player like Wilshere. Someone who would impress the fans a little more, whilst simultaneously unsettling a rival club.

And Delph is sensible. Does he really want to go there to play League Cup football and make the odd 10 minute cameo in the league? Right before the Euro's? Absolutely not. Delph's first touch and passing aren't good enough for top 4.

You'd think with all City's dosh though, they'd have one of the best academies and 2-3 top youngster they could bring into the squad.

Dangerous territory maybe but I actually believed what Delph said when he signed his contract. I think the only way he will leave is if the club decide to cash in or if we get relegated. The lad is definitely worthy of his captains armband.

Brave assertion. I actually think that he'd get better and better in a side like Citeh ... but I don't think we'll be finding out anytime soon.

It's a good job the are minted as they have completely messed up with homegrown players ,lost Milner and Richards for free and now face paying £40mil or more for Sterling and also interested in Delph /Whilshire another 2 that would cost them loads ...

Some players can look better than they are by playing every week (generalisation, not Delph particularly).  They play at the top of their game and have the match fitness necessary.  If they go to a club where they become a bit part player, they lose that edge and cannot raise their game for individual matches.  Top players can come in for an isolated game and immediately fit in.

In my opinion, this is why a string of 'next bright thing' British players have gone to top clubs and failed.

Hopefully you're right, and I tend to agree with your assessment of Delph. If it just the Englishness that they're looking for, they'd have to been pretty stupid not to have thrown a silly contract offer at Cleverley rather than pay through the nose for Delph.

Delphi is going nowhere for the next couple of seasons at least.
He is playing regular football, has the armband and is a settled England player.
If he has another great season for us, I would bump his wages to keep him happy.

On the basis that he's just signed a new 4 year deal, I see that being unlikely
Phil, as much as i hates to say it, that`s irrelevant, that contract is, as in most other cases, just a bargaining point between Buyer/Seller clubs.

So not irrelevant then.

I wonder if Delph has a release clause like Benteke.

Going by his interview post contract signing, he loves it here. He was already an England regular when he signed and with the homegrown rules, he must have known he could have got a move to one of the media favourites on a free this summer if he had wanted to.

Why would Delph want to sit on the bench for 4 seasons? The lad loves to play more than he loves money.
