It depends how you look at it. Southampton are not exactly a big club, but they had 3 players in the last squad although arguably on merit. On the other hand, Tom Cleverly probably wouldn't get a sniff if he was in our midfield.

I wouldn't fancy Tom Cleverley to even get a sniff IN our midfield.

And Ross Barkley looked poor when in our two games against the Toffees, he was up against Delph which ended up with Barkley being subbed in both games. Yet again another youngster who is over hyped and picked for England.

I'm not sure Barkley has been over hyped that much to be honest. Wilshere definitely has.

Barkley has been massively over-hyped, he's looked great in 2-3 games this year and for a couple of minutes in other games yet he gets press reports like this

Compare the lack of comments about Delph and Lallana (before the last round of games) who have both been far better all season.

Barkley is still raw, but he's very very talented. Delph has been fantastic this season and deserves recognition.

That he is 4 years younger may be part of the reason. If Delph was 20 and playing like he is he'd get a lot more press I reckon.

Yeah that's probably true, I don't think Barkley is overrated he looks excellent.

Johnson might want to think about havin more than six good games in two years before he complains about big club bias. Surely Southampton prove this is over stated - though I do think it exists (cf cleverly)

I think Barkley looks outstanding personally - it is his first season after all.
But perhaps the form of lallana and sterling and the ox will see him out of the squad

Barkley looks great on highlights shows but every time I've watched more than that I see a kid who's barely ready for premier league football let alone internationals, he's wasted a lot more decent opportunities than he's created which should be the key measure for an attacking midfielder

Southampton are a fashionable club to praise so a few of their players are perhaps more certain to get in than they should be.

Which of the players who are currently being considered from Southampton do you think shouldn't be going and who would you be taking in their place?

Pat Murphy slapped me down on Twitter because I sent him a tongue in cheek reply about recording his interview with Fabian on mini-disc. Bit unnecessary.

"Congrats - that's the most irrelevant tweet I've had all month. What difference does it make how it was recorded?"
