Wilshere???  Really???  File under overrated and believes his own hype.  Made out of papier mache as well

I think Wilshere is highly overrated and he's a complete knob but he has been very good at times this year and, like Delph, he has a knack of getting himself out of corners and keeping the game moving, I think him and delph either side of Gerrard with Lallana and Rooney playing ahead of them and Sturridge up front is the strongest side we could put out right now, With Barry as cover for Gerrard and Henderson offering a bit more physique (in place of Wilshere) in games where we need a bit more battle.
Agree completely with all that.

No wonder the media are finding it hard to credit Delph with 'meaning' to score his wonder goal, not many players have the intelligence to 'mean' such a thing. Delph does, and a cracking sense of humour too. In the Mail, he's asked whether Chelsea's sending offs were justified. His answer: "If it looks like a duck and quacks, it usually is a duck."

I have to agree - and can you imagine what the fuss on the back pages would be like if Wilshere ever turned in a performance (and goal) like Delph's from the weekend?

I think you could argue that his performance against Barcelona back in 2011 was in that category, minus the brilliant goal of course. Looked very comfortable and used the ball extremely well up against one of the better midfields to have ever played footy.

Incredibly conflicted about Delph getting into the England setup - he surely deserves a trip to the WC based on the season he's had, but then again I wouldn't want to entertain any increase in the possibility that someone poaches him.

I think Hodgson has said a couple of times now that the squad will be formed from the players he has been using?

he's got a brilliant dead pan sense of humour. He's very honest as well about himself which is very refreshing.

Can't wait.

If I was Hodgson I'd be on bended knee praying that 3 or 4 young English players would start showing the form of their lives.  Delph being one of them.

Yep, and whatever Hodgson says, he wont be able to ignore any player who is performing at the very top of their game and having a huge influence on results. Plus, there are bound to be injuries to those who are already "in". If Delph turns in another 6 or 7 performances like that then he has a real chance. And then I might show some interest in the World Cup.

A likeable, grounded, clever, witty footballer. Whatever next?

The full quote does that snippet justice.

Instead, Delph was far more forthright about Willian’s red card and insisted it was deserved. “If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it usually is. Let’s just leave it at that. He’s grabbed me and he’s caught me and I’ve gone down. I only weigh about 3st 2lb so it was a bit difficult for me to stay up.”

A big AVFC pat on the back for Martin O'Neill.

That man knows a great midfielder when he sees one.

No?

I don't mind Hodgson hes not been dealt a good hand and has qualified with a very average bunch of players in my view,
although the qualification group was not strong many have failed in the past to do the same

I much prefer him to Harry, and he seems capable of getting the best out of not a lot

if we can just keep Danny Welbeck fit I think we can win it

(that last bit is just a joke for those who don't get irony and sarcasm on here)

I suppose we'll have to give him some credit in that account.

If I've remembered rightly, in addition to Delph he signed

Milner
Petrov
Young
Downing (although not great, he was very good in Houlier's season and we made a healthy profit thanks to KKK)

Was it also MON who converted Barry to centre midfield?

No, I think Gregory played him there on his debut.

I think O'Leary tried it for one game but gave up on that experiment very quickly.

As did Gregory the day we signed Angel, and he was lost.
