There's five or six who are far ahead of him, IMO.

"Far" Really? Who are these 5 or 6?

Agree, people like Carrick & Cleverly are shite playing in a failing Manure midfield...

Henderson has had a great season and will be ahead of Delph for that energetic box to box role

I suspect Delph may get a chance after the world cup

Yep. Carricks time has passed. After this wc, he and Lampard will be done and dusted probably. Gerrard will stay on. Cleverely is indeed overrated and has no place being there.

Delph may get in a friendly or two before the WC. No chance of the squad. I do hope he's in contention for the Euro quals next season though. On the basis of games and form he has to be in the squad. He has enough quality.

In the current context of the England squad he's plenty ready.

Indeed. Delph (and Gabby for that matter) is just as good right now as most of the England Squad regulars in their spots. In my opinion gerrard is probably the only one obviously ahead of the pack in the England midfield setup. The rest are about Delph level.

From what I've seen recently, I'd definitely have Lallana and Chamberlain in the England MF, with Gerrard as the holding MF. Rooney as the attacking MF might make the MF, supporting Sturridge and Rodriguez.
Delph would be a player I'd bring on to freshen things up and provide the drive in the second half of a game.

He's looking a lot less "high-trouser, legs akimbo" then he used to as well.  He's looking a lot more gazelle then newborn deer in any case.

I think Hodgson's already got his 23 sorted. The only way Delph would be in it is if there's a new kind of virus that debilitates average midfielders that play in red.

Four central midfielders in the squad are likely to be Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick and Wilshere if he's fit.  My issue with that selection is that there is no athleticism or energy, especially if Wilshere is injured.  Delph would offer that, but I just can't see him being given an opportunity.

Carrick and Lamparrd won't go. Nor should they.

I'd be amazed if Carrick isn't in the squad.

I'd be pretty surprised if he isn't first choice alongside Gerrard and Wilshere.

What will he be like when he is in his early to mid-30s?
What a prospect!

On form this season I'd say Gerrard, Lallana, Wilshere, Henderson, Barry and Delph should be the central midfielders in the squad (and of those only Gerrard and Lallana have been 'far ahead' of Delph), then have someone like Chamberlain and/or Milner who can cover there as well.  Barkley will be a good midfielder in a few years but he's far too inconsistent right now.  Cleverley is poor, Carrick is far too slow (and not as good as Barry or Gerrard in the holding role) Lampard is still a decent player but he's only worth picking if we think we can win it, he's never going to make the euros so we should move on and get some of the younger guys some tournament experience.

I've seen Delph's goal maybe five or six times on various news bulletins over the weekend and it still makes me cheer with surprise when he does it.

I think Wilshere is highly overrated and he's a complete knob but he has been very good at times this year and, like Delph, he has a knack of getting himself out of corners and keeping the game moving, I think him and delph either side of Gerrard with Lallana and Rooney playing ahead of them and Sturridge up front is the strongest side we could put out right now, With Barry as cover for Gerrard and Henderson offering a bit more physique (in place of Wilshere) in games where we need a bit more battle.

I have to agree - and can you imagine what the fuss on the back pages would be like if Wilshere ever turned in a performance (and goal) like Delph's from the weekend?
