I don't think either Westwood or Weimann could have much argument if they didn't start the Newcastle game.

I agree, but who would come in for them? Unless, of course, we sign the mythical playmaker.

KEA and Tonev.

But leave Bacuna in the side?

Sylla.

My man of the match would have been Gerrard, TBH. I can think of two or three other Liverpool players I'd also rank ahead of Sturridge for today, as well as Delph and Okore from us.

I presume you were taking the piss about Gerrard. Walking away from the ground I thought he looked a little lost and maybe passed it. Found my Villa and Liverpool mates agreeing.

He couldn't string a straight pass together today.

Gerrard looked wasted in the second half and staying on topic I thought Delph was again fantastic and MotM.

Gerrard was very good defensively in the second half. He needed to be because Lucas was shocking. But he was pretty crap on the ball.

Did I hear it correctly?  Bacuna got the sponsors man of the match?  I take it they coiffed more champagne than normal today.

Gerrard was very good defensively in the second half.

That was what impressed me about him. Especially as Liverpool's gameplan revolved around trying to limit our attacks. Maybe I had low expectations of him as I've been saying that he's past it for the last few years.

Agree that Delph was genuinely excellent and has been in all the first three games. Especially considering the opposition in them.

Having not seen them live this season, how similar do Delph and Bacuna look on the pitch? I know last year in my first live match and missing the team announcement I though Holman was Weimann for the first 20 mins.

Thought Delph was excellent today, one of the few who seemed some real urgency in their play -  can only assume the sponsors genuinely got them mixed up!

Delph's improvement during the last half of last season, and the way he's started this season, has been surprising and brilliant.

Didn't see it coming myself - some did - but it's been a wonderful thing to watch

FWIW, I agree with you. Gerrard tracked back superbly, in fact he was the main reason so many of our attacks foundered. He didn't offer much going forward, but then they were playing to protect their lead for most of the game.

If all Sturridge did was get the winning goal that would be enough for me if I was a Liverpool fan.

As a big a cock as someone like Gerrard can be it will have been good experience for our boys watching him play. Liverpool had to established international players in their midfield alongside one who is an outstanding prospect. Our boys can take something from today and also know they won't face that quality every week.
