It was the assistant referee that gave the 2nd penalty, and he actually had a great view of the incident.
I think this is correct. I was standing about 30 yards away from the ref on the RH side of the goal as looking from behind the goal. Gabby entered the box to the left of the pen spot the ref was a few yards behind to the right from my view. I thought it was a good tackle however the ref touched his left ear looked over to the right and than pointed to the spot. It wasn't an instantaneous decision he took his time.

Did the linesman put his flag across his chest then , as when I saw him his arms were by his side a few seconds after the award?
Wenger said the linesman told him he did not give the penalty .

Either way we deserve a few decisions our way against the arsenal after some of  the things against us down the years.

On Football First, Niall Quinn thought that Brad Guzman played very well.

I have just read the Sun on Sunday and their reporter Antony Kastrinakis in his Ratings gave Matthew Lowton a 5. Apparently he only lasted 19 minutes before hobbling off to be replaced by Clark.  Meanwhile Baker earned a 7 with an impressive display showing maturity beyond his years.  Ashley Westwood got a 7, another good display from the England ace.  Luna got a 7, scored a superb solo goal but booked for his out of control tackle on the Ox.

They know the Arsenal players alright, ours are a bit of a mystery to them.  I don't suppose Antony gets paid for his report. Surely he is not doing this for a living ?

Yeah I read that, and thought it was pretty unprofessional. However at least he said Villa deserved to win.

Funnily enough i just read that report, really poor journalism to give Lowton a 5 and say he hobbled off after 19 minutes , he and baker are not even similar in looks .

Is Antony Kastrinakis the one whose picture byline looks like a coconut with a pair of eyes?

He said we deserved to win from a disappointed Arsenal fans perspective.  His report and his back page article was all about Arsenal and slagging Wenger.

He might be related to Joe Kinnear of course.

The team showed tremendous character, fight and resilience to come back from losing a goal in that fashion.

I think in a nutshell it is this that underpinned our upturn in form last season. There was a time when we had effectively lost the game when we went behind and you could literally see the players' heads drop when it happened. I think our valiant attempt at a comeback during the second half at home to Newcastle was probably the turning point in that regard.

Good to see you back eastie.
No I did not see what the lines man did. He was diagonally across with the goal nets in the way and I can't say if I looked at him.

They have radio links now,the linesman could of just told him it was a pen.

So the flag across the chest doesn't happen anymore ? I ask the question because some say the linesman gave the pen but wenger was adamant in his press conference that the linesman told him he did not signal a penalty.
Either way , its been proven to be a penalty on replays and its nice to see wenger squirm.
Oh and thanks aftab.:)

seems like all Wenger has to do is spend a load of money, much the same as what we were telling Lambert to do last Jan,
its not as easy as all that, spending is not the answer, spending wisely is, and when you are under pressure to spend quickly that's when you make the biggest mistakes

I don't know where Wenger goes from here,
I don't much care either, but I do think he has been a fantastic manager in the past and I love the way his teams have played the game a few years ago, maybe his time is up,
but he been one of the chief architects of how the game is now played in the premier league,

remember before him it was George Graham who were winning the league with hoof ball and a well drilled back four, boring Arsenal was the chant, and the chant was correct

Wenger has changed all that, but has lost his way in recent years, maybe other coaches with money have caught up with him, most teams even those teams newly promoted are trying to play a more passing game with greater levels of technique,
the likes of  Fat Sam and Pullis are looks at as old fashioned, a lot of this is down to Wenger and the way he introduced this type of play in football

i still hate the way he blames every one but himself mind, that's his biggest problem, he cant see the buck stops and starts with him

He was on the local radio on the way back yesterday and he didn't sound a happy chap. It wouldn't surprise me if this was his last season.

Things can soon turn around , they play spurs in their next home game and a win plus 2 or 3 signings will soon see the fans back onside , personally i believe wenger should have moved onto one of the top Spanish clubs a few years back when he had the chance , he has undoubtedly been good for the premiership and brought a lovely style of football to watch but seems to shy away from paying top fees  and prefer to find players to develop into gems.

The sad facts for arsenal is that they have become something of a stepping stone themselves in recent years and lost their best players to the big payers.
